Modern Vespa

I have a 1970 Super 150, Bajaj ignition, new 20/20 carb that I dissembled and cleaned. New petcock, fuel line and spark plug.

It will not start on multiple kickstarts. Some starter fluid gets a few revolutions but that's it.

I have a new coil coming in. It is getting spark on kickstarts. I think it might be a float problem. But I am really at a loss.

Are you SURE that you are:

1. Getting fuel to the carb
2. Getting adequate compression
3. Not experiencing an air leak

Sounds like maybe a fuel delivery issue. Float or bad flow?

Take off the banjo. open petcock. do you have fuel flow?
If yes..proceed to carb rebuild. If no... check fuel line and fuel-tap for fuckery.

Bajaj ignition is always a suspect.

Yeah, I don't trust those things as far as I can throw them in the trash.

Sure, once upon a time, that Bajaj was the only game in town, but that problem was fixed by the market over ten years ago.

When you say you cleaned the carb, how extensively did you clean it? Like..."ultrasonic carb cleaner followed by high pressure air blow-out," or "removed the jets, sprayed some carb cleaner in it, called it good?"

I just dealt with this on a bike and it took two rounds of cleaning (after the owner said he had cleaned the carb) at the ultrasonic cleaner end of the spectrum to finally get it to run right.

New carb and I took it through bery carb cleaner and then sonic cleaner. I can see the fuel enter into the carb.

I bought the Vespa with Bajaj system. Trying a new coil tomorrow. I did have it running off another carb but now nothing with either carbs.
