Whichever LED bulb you go for make sure it is the same diameter as the existing halogen / incandescent bulb because many of the aftermarket ones don't fit into the reflector unit especially those with finned heatsinks around the base.

What size would I need, I appreciate your response. Is there anyone with a liberty that has converted to led here that could point to a bulb that fits possibly in a h4 series??

I've used these H4 bulbs for several years in three Buddy 50s, and they are quite effective.
28W H4 LED Headlight Bulb COB Chip LED Motorcycle Headlight AC/DC 9-18V Motorcycle Lights Universal Moto Light Front Headlamp https://a.aliexpress.com/_mOIXSHm Their most important feature is that braided metal heat sink, which can be easily pushed around to fit in the shallow headlight housing. As you've probably seen, most LED bulbs have a long, solid metal heat sink, which bumps into stuff behind the housing and basically won't fit. The other benefit that isn't relevant to modern 150s is that it has an integral AC-to-DC converter. Small scooters often power the headlights using AC current directly from the stator. They don't use battery power when the key is turned on, and the headlight only comes on when the engine is started. LEDs don't work on AC the way a traditional incandescent bulb does, so that converter/rectifier is crucial. Aside from illustrating the braided heat sink design, I am not positive that these AliExpress bulbs are ideal for Vespas, but I suspect they are. I bought a very similar-looking LED bulb from ScooterWest for my Vespa S150 several years ago…at substantially higher price. It works great but I don't know whether it's the same bulb that they just unboxed and dropped into their own plastic bag. EDIT: the ScooterWest bulb is a little different, and doesn't have the AC-to-DC converter (so is not compatible with the Buddy 50cc AC headlight setup). I think it is somewhat brighter than the AliExpress bulb above. It is specifically recommended for the Liberty, too. I will say it has been excellent on my S150, and for $90, it oughtta be. https://www.scooterwest.com/led-h4-headlight-kit-for-vespa-gt-gts-super-300-sprint-150-primavera-150.html EDIT2: this looks closer to what ScooterWest is reselling. The lumen ratings are all over the place, who knows where the truth lies. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Fanless-Braid-style-motorcycle-headlight-K3_1601025747409.html ⚠️ Last edited by Juan_ORhea on UTC; edited 2 times

28 watts, true AC/DC, 2,800 lumens and under $18 with free shipping. I've installed 9 of these in the last year, 2 in my personal scooters. It is a great headlight: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832773081575.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.3.777a1dc5jyPDEO&algo_pvid=f1c5d21c-ecad-4836-8fe9-0c5f25ed1027&algo_exp_id=f1c5d21c-ecad-4836-8fe9-0c5f25ed1027-1&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21USD%2120.57%2117.48%21%21%2120.57%2117.48%21%402101fb0917183322033922045ec305%2166468553108%21sea%21US%21844837102%21&curPageLogUid=Fra5vshabkfc&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch%7Cquery_from%3A

Owning both, as I do, as I said, the SW bulb is somewhat brighter, but there is no way it's 10x brighter.
Nor do I think it is 5x brighter, even though it is 5x more expensive. If your $18 is committed, see how you like it. You can unload it on a Buddy 50 owner if you decide to trade up. |

A little surprised to read that so many ride their Liberty in the dark.
Every one of my rides starts in the dark ...for the past 8 yrs. I find the 60/55 halogen bulb quite good. O.S. ⚠️ Last edited by OldSchooot on UTC; edited 1 time

Day time riding is the main reason I have these. The 6000k can be seen so much better than the stock bulb. I find night time illumination is better as well. It does throw more light in a wider pattern than the stock bulb, but I like it better. I installed 6k LED running bulbs in my Genuine Buddy.

Stock lighting on the Liberty150i is not exactly junk!
And it is focused as Piaggio designed.... Piaggio, having sold 900.000+ of this family of scootera, are doing something right. ![]() O.S.

One of the reviews on SW suggests Liberty maybe not be a good fit:
Kris S Verified Buyer 05/05/2021 Good quality product I was very impressed with this product and the video that robot presented on YouTube about the installation. I acquired this for my 2021 Piaggio liberty 150s, however it wasn't quite a good fit for that. This will fit the proper Vespas as indicated in the description, I wasn't sure for my scooter, but as always, ScooterWest was great to work with for my return. |
