Modern Vespa

Hello,

I ended up w/a 1980 P200E in pieces. two forks that look identical w/the 20mm axle...

I fit the two of them but the steering tubes are too short. I only end up w/enough threads to put on a single upper race "nut" and not the lock nut...

What am I mising? are there different length steering tubes?

Are you sure it's not catching on something?
I just dropped my VNB fork to rout a wire and it just wouldn't go all the way back in until I shifted a cable out of the way.

Here's my 81 P200 and a new PX fork I have for my disc upgrade on the 81. The tubes are near identical in length from top to where the dust seal sits. Make sure the bearing race is all the way down on the fork. Seems to be common problem. Hope this helps.

I thought the same and it's and "empty" frame. no wires, cables, etc in there yet... my forks look like those, and I double checked the races on the forks and the frame... I am lost on this one...

Maybe PK forks?? They're shorter…

That is a possibility I had not thought of. Nimar, is it possible you can put up some pictures of what you have?

from the bottom of the dust cap to top of fork is 15 3/8 in or 390mm.

Measured both forks, PK is 38.8cm, PX is 40.5cm. Where are the end stops on the forks you have?? On the front or on the rear??

stops are in front.

i now know I have three short forks....

Stops in front are definitely PK…

now I need to find a PX fork...

I may be able to help...

I forgot to add a photo.

I have three froks. no clue how I got three... All are 390 mm length.

Two are freshly powder coated gloss black, one is a metalic red and the stops were cut off for a some custom job..

All are 20mm axles

one is still fully assembled and on the bike so I could sit there and scratch my head staring at it.

I would cut it and add a sleeve, put it in a jig and TIG weld it back up to proper length ---if I couldn't find the right one.

I had thought of that... and it may come to that...

A PK fork is totally different and won't work on a P even if you extend it…
