I think you mean captionless Rally pictures. Nothing spells "riveting read" like a bunch of random pictures of people I don't know mugging it up for the camera without any kind editorial or authorial context. Ah, the good old days of print media when the pictures were used to supplement the text.

That very minor "Rally Review" criticism aside, I still enjoy "Scoot MAGAZINE" [edit] and get mine in the mail regularly enough. They really do a helluva job, in my opinion.

And for those who haven't been getting theirs, all you have to do is e-mail them. When one of my issues was a few weeks late being delivered, I zipped them a quick e-mail politely asking if mine had been sent, etc., and they said if I didn't receive it in the next couple of days, they'd gladly send out another copy. (Coincidentally enough, my issue came that same day.) It never hurts to ask.

Seems that some folks are unhappy about the service from Scoot Magazine. I took out a year's subscription in September and very soon the October 2007 - Scoot! #42 arrived. Last Saturday I received a second copy of #42. I have asked Scoot, via e mail, if I should have received the next edtition #43 but I am awaiting a reply.

Perhaps you guys across the pond could let me know if #43 has been published yet please? At least you have got the choice of buying it from Barnes and Noble.

I was in New York in early November and I was hoping to buy Scooter World (which is not available in England by subscription) but it was not in stock. Sod's law!

How is Scooter World rated in America? Am I missing much?

#42 was the last issue published, Oct 2007. #43 not out yet...

They were having printing issues with a new vendor. Just checked out April's blog from www.scootmagazine.com.

From April's blog:

"Where's my magazine?
I'm wondering the same thing myself!

We've been having printing issues which have not made the staff happy. Due to some confusion with our printer, the current issue which was supposed to be in stores on Nov 15, is now on its way to the Scoot! offices. It's safe to say it is over 3 weeks late. We switched printers 3 issues ago and it seems that with each subsequent issue, a new miscommunication or misunderstanding has cropped up.

At this point I can only say, please be patient. We aim to have these printing issues ironed out by the next issue and will be back on our regular schedule. I am currently working on getting the April issue edited and ready for printing. There's no problems with Scoot!, we're not going out of business or anything like that. We're just learning how to manage a new vendor relationship. Ahem."

I also work in magazine publishing and with printers so I know the difficulties of switching to a new one. Unfortunately, unless you're a big-budget publication with a seasoned production staff and a loyal, dedicated printer that would bleed to keep your business, there will be problems. They will invariably screw up on occasion and once you iron one problem out a new one will likely appear out of nowhere. (We solved some color problems after our last issue, then the bindery started screwing up and cut a couple signatures crooked on a significant portion of the current one. Argh. It never ends!)

Going with a new printer means starting off from square 1, discovering a whole new set of problems to be ironed out and hoping that at the end of the painful process you're better off than with the previous printer.

So, yeah, I sympathize with your printing problems and hope to see the new issue on stands soon.

Could anyone please confirm whether Scoot #43 is now available? I have sent 3 e mails to Scoot but have not received any reply. Judging from the replies above, there have been problems in the past and as I have only recently taken out a 1 year's subscription, I want to make sure that I receive all the magazines when they are published. Has anyone else e mailed Scoot recently. If so, did they get a reply please?

I bought a subscription back in June and have only gotten 1 damn magazine. Considering I paid somewhere around $30 I'm just a wee bit pissed here but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who got screwed.

If you read my previous posts on this thread - do like me and chalk it up as a commemorative issue.

#43 is available now.

When I first subscribed to the mag, my first issue was delayed also, so I called them, and received the past issue and the current issue very quickly after the conversation.

Don't give up on them, they are a small magazine with limited staff, and they work very hard getting the magazine out..Quite a few scooterists from this area also volunteer to get those magazines up to the office and stuffed into the plastic wrappers.

It's a Perfect Six Sigma Project.

Come on you Black Belts. Someone needs to design a process that allowes scoot magazine to search history to know who they shipped every issue to.

They can then use that system to make sure every single magazine gets delivered.

the thing that really annoys me with scoot is that sooner or later, somebody from there will come on here or stella speed or the scooter bbs or whatever and have a big sob story about how things are busy or whatever the current excuse is.

for me though, it's like, if you can't send it out, don't publish it and/or take my money then.

there's always some big sob story, but i ain't much for crying.

Good point, then don't subscribe. Those who really want the mag will find it at Borders or another book store.

I think you missed my point though..they ARE a very small publication, and do run into snafus. The magazine was not started as a money making scheme. It is a magazine for scooterists by scooterists, and we need to support our small community. They work very hard each month to get the magazine out and to the subscribers.

NickandSusan - I appreciate your comments about Scoot being a small organisation but I paid a subscription and it is up to them to provide the service they promised. I know it must be difficult if theis is a small organisation but if they are not able to fulfil their obligations, then I respectfully suggest they should not offer a subscription service and accept money up front from people. You talk about small, some of you may have seen Classic Scooterist Scene. This is edited by a friend of mine from the 1960s Dover Saints Scooter Club and this magazine started as a single folded A4 sheet which has now grown into what it is now - the best classic scooter magazine on the market which is available worldwide. He was a one man band and he always got the magazines out on time to those who paid their subscriptions. Maybe some of you may think I am being a bit hard but if I was experiencing this sort of service here in England I would take steps either to ensure I got the magazine on a regular basis or a refund of my subscription. It's not cheap suscribing internationally and I don't have the luxury of popping into a shop to pick up a copy.

Communication in all walks of life is the essence of success and I see no reason why e mails should go unanswered. If there are problems I would rather hear about them from tScoot rasther than having to rely on comments on the forum. Thank goodness for this great forum otherwise I would be completely unaware of what is going on.

scoot!
Well. I stayed quiet long enough.

As well as the dealership and the bar, I do part time shipping for Scoot!

Plenty of mags go out, lots come back. No excuses, that is what the USPS deals us. You out of country definately get the short end of the stick. For some reason, the USPS will kick back issues because of who knows. I re-package them and send them again - with customs tags and all - and they end up in never never land. It is all I can do to resend and resend.

As far as you in the US. Well, there are 3 people in the org. 1 in the office. That person is Josh and he will gladly make me rush you your issues, provided that your information is correct and you are up to date. The last few months there was the switch to bi-monthly and that really make things difficult. Once again not making excuses, but come in the office and try to do in a week that was done in a month.. all at once all of a sudden.

call the mag, email Josh. It really is a DIY mag.
