with the steady hot temps in the NE part of the US, the tar strips on the roads have become soft during mid day heat. I have noticed a lot of wiggling with the back tire in cornering. Never really noticed it on the motorcycle (only in wet weather). Should I be concerned????
Concerned - perhaps not, but certainly be aware of this! However, unless they cover a huge area, they will only give a little wiggle to the ride, and if you're ready for that you should be fine.
Yes tar snakes can become very slippery when it gets hot. It is a predominant way to repair cracks in the pavement here in the Northeast
I try to avoid them in corners as the rear wheel can slip/slide on them but will grab once off the snake.
Tar snakes are extensive in Georgia. Ive ridden on them hundreds of times and never felt anything abnormal except ONE time when they were slippery as hell.
Good observation. Obviously, they are more dangerous when they run parallel to your riding direction. Here in Minnesota the road repair crews will go wild and they are everywhere. Fresh and in the heat you have be cautious.
Sand and loose gravel is the most dangerous on curves. They are the worst here in the Spring before rain and clean up sweepers have cleared them up. Also, early in our riding season finds farm equipment dragging dirt on country roads while they are plowing and preparing their fields.
Be safe - you can not take any curve up here to slow - especially if it is blind.
