I'm looking to buy my first Vespa, and have an opportunity to get a 2001 ET4 or 2013 LX150. I am loving the ET4 styling but my husband is concerned on the ET4's year vs. the LX150.

I'm negotiating both in the lower $2k range right now. Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated on the concern of the year and anything else would be appreciated. I'm doing my best to learn before I jump into getting my first ride, which I have been dreaming of for years🙂.

ET4 - Under 400 miles, states it runs well and stored indoors, was just serviced, no accidents/drops

LX150 - 10k miles, replaced oil recently, runs well, no accidents/drops

It isn't really all about the age of the ET, it's the fact that it has been sitting around. The rubber bits - tires, CVT belt, fuel and vacuum lines, etc.. are 23 years old and should be replaced, so figure that in. The Lx has been used more (better)and 10k miles is nothing as long as it has been taken care of. Now, you did not mention the tires or any maintenance done on the LX, so you may be putting in the same amount of money on tires, and anything else it needs. The big difference is the LX is fuel injected, whereas the ET is carbed. For the same money? I would go with the LX, hands down.

Thank you Tierney for the information, it was very helpful in my selection. I end up getting a 2018 with close to 6k miles.

I think your 2018 is all around a better purchase decision, even if it was a few more $$ than you wanted to spend. As long as you ride it regularly, you can keep up with the ongoing maintenance, and not suffer and a huge ding to your pocketbook that either of the other scooters presented.

Post a pic of your new ride!
