I finished up work on a long term art project I've been working on, inbetween everything else in life; A Vespa art piece for my shop wall. made from a genuine Vespa frame & parts.
I took a unsavable (I tried) taco-folded Rally frame, and chopped that sucka right down the middle. A 50s headset with broken shift side, chopped that! An SS Mudguard that had been bodged; chopped that! A busted GL seat frame...you guessed it, chopped! Broken tractor light-chopped. Bodged Sprint engine - chopped! Old front crashbars-chopped! Etc etc.
All parts were pulled from my stash, broken, worn, or straight bodged. No good usable parts were harmed in the making of this piece. Well....mostly The crashbars were good, but had to be sacrificed for the sake of art! The sidecowl is from an SS180, and is untouched and can be pulled for use if needed. The frame and body pieces were clear coated for the extra shine.
After the frame was cut, I welded in some angle iron bracing to the backside, for strength and mounting (sorry no pics). Then I mounted studs to the wall studs, to then mount the frame to. The frame + fork is secured to the wall, then the engine+shock+rear tire are installed. The area its mounted is above my drill press, and toward the front of the shop. The vertical height is limited, so I had to improvise by cutting 2" off the bottom of the tires, which cant be seen from below; and even if so gives it a cool 'sunken in' look.
After mounting I added some of my sign collection for a bit of flair, and to cover up the janky wall. I'd like finish and paint this section to clean it up.
The last step is to wire up the headlight & tailight for some ambiance.
I hope you enjoy and are inspired to make some art of your own.
