Hi All

Without getting attacked can someone please just tell me when I need my next service? I have done these intervals so far.

650

3000

6000

9000

I currently have 11,000 miles and was wondering if i need to bring in soon. I read a few places that it says 12,500 - but I was just on VESPAPORTLAND website it it states every 6200 which will give me some more time....

i was just wondering whats standard.

You might add the year of your Vespa to your byline. HPE and non/HPE have vastly different intervals for the 300. How much freeway riding do you do? what was done at the 9,000 mile service? Vespa tells you to change the oil every 6,000 miles. A lot of people, myself included do it every 4,000. Was the belt done at 9,000. The HPE tells you to change the belt and check the valves every 6,000 miles. You need to provide more information if you want meaningful responses.

Well, what's standard is what is in your manual for that model. Different models have different intervals.

Or to put it another way, i recommend doing what's in your manual.

The primary reason for routine servicing between the prescribed 6000 mile (10,000 km) service intervals would be how many miles you put on your scooter per year. If you are putting something like 3000 miles per year on your GTS, many owners choose (and Piaggio recommends) to change the oil and filter annually. Likewise the recommended interval for brake fluid and coolant servicing is 2 years which would again result in more frequent service intervals depending on mileage. (all this is in the maintenance table in your HPE manual)

Good Grief! Does no one read their manual anymore? It is exhausting to read so many posts, in so many forums, that can be answered by opening up the manual and reading!

I agree . The OP asked a "when is the next service after 650" question 2 years ago and I got roasted by the hive for saying pretty much what you just said (and I even included the answer for the question). So, I'm here for it (again) and stand by it. The manual is your friend.

I didn't feel like going out to the garage to look it up in the manual instead I wanted to leave this post to upset everyone on this forum. I just looked and saw it at 12,400. So I have some time!

This is all stuff which is done at the 6,000 mile interval. Piaggio says that none of this needs to be done in between 6,000 mile intervals (assuming you continue to put at least 6k miles on your scooter annually). And they actually recommend a 12,000 mile interval for changing the spark plug. The dealer presumably changed the drive belt at the 6,000 mile service, which means that is due again at 12,000 miles (per the HPE owners manual).

Maybe it's the dealer that needs to read the manual to know the correct service intervals. Looks like the air filter, spark plug, and hub oil, were changed over 3,000 miles early (at 8,500 miles). Hopefully they did the belt and rollers at 6,000 miles. If the belts/rollers were done at 6,000 miles, I'd wait until 12,000 miles to do the next service because the "belt adjustment" done at 8,500 miles isn't a true maintenance item. If the belt/roller wasn't changed at 6,000 miles, you need to have them do that ASAP.

I'd personally be a little pissed off that the service department (likely) did unnecessary 3,000 mile services on your scooter, changed items out early/unnecessarily, and in doing so, screwed up the maintenance interval timing for your air filter, spark plug, and hub oil. Unless there is a mitigating circumstance, maintenance on your scooter should be done only every 6,000 miles (or every one year for engine oil/filter/center stand lubrication or every two years for coolant/brake fluid). You could have needed fresh motor oil at 8500 miles (maybe a year passed), but unless stuff was missed at the 6,000 mile service, there was probably no reason to change the air filter, spark plug, or hub oil at that non-interval.

owner is just as at fault, they have the power to read the manual and know when the service interval is and what's to be done.

Dealer says sure we can do a service if that's what you want. marks the mileage at xxx and owner says I want a complete service. ok says dealer. bam here's what we did and here's your invoice.

If the own does say "I want a complete/full service" then sure. If the owner says "I want a service" then the dealer should do what's appropriate. I don't know what the OP said and won't assume

Also if they had said 'complete' then a valve check should be done and the belt and rollers should have been replaced not just 'adjust belt', ie the dealer made their own mind up what to do - did not read the manual etc.

Edit: weirdly I don't see replace rollers in the list in the manual but it does say inspect the roller housing

Yes, I had the belts taken care of at the 6000 service, but had a horrible experience with the dealer so switched to one more local. I just felt like having the bike looked over before I was taking it on a very long ride. I am not handy, nor can I do any of these things myself so I don't really mind having a professional take a look at it from time to time. Rides beautifully. I had a fuel pump crap out at just 650 miles shortly after I purchased the bike and it was replaced under warrantee and then again at 7000 miles I needed ANOTHER fuel pump so when I had the 8500 service done it was just for peace of mind and switching dealers. I will bring it back in at 12,500 miles or so…….i am super happy with the dealer and I trust them. They told me they are getting a lot of biz from unhappy customers of the other dealership I was dealing with.

Ride on and be safe all!!! Thanks for all the input
