Cool!

We were just out there last summer, and I think it's an awesome choice. Bit far of a trip, but not out of the question!

Will Voodoo Donuts be on the itinerary? Razz emoticon

On a related note, Scooter Cannonball starts the following Sunday on 6/22, leaving from Seaside Oregon, about 90 minutes west on the Pacific coast.

The wife and I are hoping to make the trip south this year and attend our first Amerivespa weekend. Anyone else planning to attend?

We're trying to plan to attend. With no further information on hotel location, agenda, registration timing and so on, they're not doing themselves any favours.

I'm in Portland for business often, including right now, and like to stay at the Vance Hotel downtown. The only issue with the Vance is street parking around the hotel is a bit dicey (think a small sliver of Market St. in downtown SF, but not nearly as bad). They have a garage that can handle full sized tucks.

I stay here almost exclusively and can talk to the manager about maybe an MV rate.

I was thinking about riding the GTS up from San Diego with a buddy riding support truck. Then trailer home.

We'll be camping somewhere in our van. But the main hotel location is key to that.

It's Portland, you can camp anywhere. And I do mean ANYWHERE.

Knowing nothing about the event details, we always stay at Northrup Station (in Northwest) when we visit PDX. Excellent neighborhood, on the lightrail line, has a parking lot. Rooms are suites with full kitchens and balconies large enough to sit on.

And just like that, registration is now open, and the hotel is the Holiday Inn, Columbia riverfront.

They chose a hotel on an island, with only freeway access to the city, for a scooter rally?!?!

Well, being up there will make it easier for Jim to find a campground, than it would if the meeting place was downtown.

And we did, on the island a few blocks from the hotel. I think loads of people were trying to book there, as available spots went from 43 to 9 in a few minutes. Cost a fortune or so it seems to us - we normally camp for free in National Forest or BLM spots. A lot cheaper than the hotel though!

I emailed info@vespaclubofamerica.com enquiring about family registration (spouse attending etc), which has been possible on some previous Amerivespas, but no reply yet. I'll give them another week before trying again.

Its Portland. I'm pretty sure everyone on that freeway has been held up by a naked bike ride. A few scoots should be a welcome relief.

One of the few places in the world where there can be hundreds of grown ass men on little scooters, and hundreds of bare ass men on big bicycles...all in the same city block.

I totally agree. My guess is that that's the only venue that they could procure that would hold that many people? No doubt the vespa club searched high and low for the best spot to use in the portland area. At least it will be only 1 mile of freeway travel. Still, it's a pretty busy portion of the freeway, being that it's right at the washington/oregon border. It might be sketchy for the slower 50cc scooters.

Because the freeway bridge that crosses the Columbia has limited width (just 3 lanes each way), traffic tends to constrict and slow in that area for most of the day, especially during peak morning and evening commute times. Should not be an issue except for those returning late from events in other locations.

Sorry to have missed you at Amerivespa. A cv joint on the van decided to gain a huge divot on its outer race a few days before - and a replacement won't arrive until tomorrow at the earliest.
