Recently picked up an 80's P200e. Sometimes while shifting the engine's RPMs don't drop down, they rev up. I had a 2005 PX 150, which had the same problem so I didn't think too much about it. When I see videos of other 200s or 150s it seems like when they put the clutch in and throttle down the Rpm's go down also. Am I shifting wrong? Does my carburetor need adjusting? I'm not sure what to expect. The over reviving seems to happen whether the bike is hot or cold, choke on or off.
Any advice welcomed. Thanks

Sounds like an air leak to me.

But you might want to ask a Mod to move this over to NSM. You'll likely get more responses there.

You might have a sticking throttle slide, but much more likely the motor has an air leak.

If that's the case, continuing to ride it is going to cause the engine to seize eventually. There are some folks on here in the Seattle area. I don't know who's up closer to you, though.

Can you post a video of it misbehaving? That'll help a lot with the diagnosis.

What's your comfort level with working on motors?

(And welcome to the Dark NSM Side!)

How about when it's up on the stand on neutral and you open the throttle then just let go? It should drop to an idle with no fuss.

Doing this with your cowl, air box cover & air filter off should help you spot a sticky slide if you have one. The 24 carb on most P200s is prone to sticking if the forward bolt is cinched up too tight - it can cause the carb body to pinch the slide if it's not the latest style that's been relieved to avoid the problem

Thanks for the replies. I'll ck for air leaks and sticky throttle cable.
