Hi All,

There are some older threads but figured I would restart given the new models.
Which MP3 Windshield?
ISO taller windshield/windscreen for 2019 Piaggio MP3 500

What windscreen is everyone running? I am 6'4" and finding the wind increasingly bothering me. I have been reading online of people saying get a lower windscreen while others say go bigger. Just looking to see if anyone with similar size have experience they can share?

Thanks!

I use the Piaggio "style" windscreen kit.

I'm 6'3 and it protects me perfectly

6ft 2 and using standard 500 Hpe model windshield, can see over it fine and no problems at all, if weather is bad full face helmet, nicer summer simple vespa helmet, but windshields and oil are always good for a 1000 posts.

I know I know... I have maybe close to 15k miles ridden on MP3s but for some reason, maybe its me paying more attention to my posture, or loosing weight idk, but after a 400 mile highway ride the other day my ears were just bothering me from the wind noise (full face). I got talking with a bunch of NYC riders and it was a pretty split view:

- half said smaller windshield
- other half said get the tall ones with support

FWIW right now I have the standard windshield, just trying to grab someone else in the 6'4" range to opine before I spend money on something that still bothers me

For what it is worth, a 800km ride would make anybodies head sore, I changed from a Schuberth 3 to a Schuberth 4, and it was night and day comfort wise, maybe try a different helmet first.

I agree about trying a different helmet BUT a new windscreen will generally always be less expensive than a new top quality helmet (Schuberth, Shoei, Arai)

However, I have a different opinion re. Schuberth. I have about a dozen of them, from the C3 Pro, C4, C4 Pro, C4 pro carbon, to the newest C5.

By far, at least for me, the C3 pro is still the quietest and most comfortable.

The C5, the newest, doesn't fit as good. My chin rubs slighlty on the i side of the flip lid.

Schuberth keeps messing about with their sizing which is a major point of contention.

The C4 was the worst helmets I ever owned and pieces flew off. On all 3 of them. They were ultimately all taken back by Schuberth and exchanged for the C4 Pro. The standard C4 was not tested properly and rushed to market. And sin of all sins, it didn't use a standard Pinlock visor causing the helmet to fog up. This was also fixed with the C4 Pro.

The C4 Pro carbon is the lightest, and most expensive, of all the lids in my collection but the range of the intercom sucks. Apparently, carbon fiber blocks radio signals. Would have been nice to know before paying 1500+ Euro.

Also, the C4 pro carbon is the loudest among all my helmets, followed by the C5.

Ultimately, I use the C4 pro more than the C5. And I use the C3 Pro most of all, although its age is becoming a factor.

And the use of a coin cell battery for the buttons as well as a boom mic on the SC2 intercom on the C5 pisses me off to no end.

The integration of the intercom is much better on the SC1 that was used with the C4 Pro. The intercom on the standard C4 was also a debacle. The audio quality sucked, the mic sucked, the battery connection would act up, etc, etc, etc

6'1", 32"inseam [long torso] I have the tall givi, it moved the buffeting to the top of my head, which lets the helmet vents work

On my 650 burgman I shimmed the mounting bolts, changing the angle of the windshield slightly in conjunction with Givi tall screens
Shimming the whole thing out 1/4" inch, moved the buffeting zone up a couple of inches, another 1/8" on the top two moved the BZ a couple more inches, which reduced the effectiveness of the vents, but made for a quiet ride
I used a combination of rubber & metal washers

You might need longer shoulder bolts on your mp3 windscreen to do that trick

What about custom made hearing protection? I always use the otoplpastics in both ears, to prevent hearing damage or even hearing loss. When exposed for more than 15 minutes >80 decibels, severe damage can occur. It may be a part of the solution to your question.

So…I'm not near as tall but I will say regardless if you go with the large Piaggio screen with the support antlers you will still be looking through the screen and wind will definitely NOT be a problem noise wise or regarding buffeting. What I'll also say is that if you are an all the gear all the time rider (which I am) the protection is really TOO good for comfortable riding even in the mountains of NC in shorts and t-shirt under my mesh Olympia one piece summer suit. This windscreen is very nice (and expensive) and it came on my nicely outfitted used bike at purchase but next spring I'll take it off for the summer season and put on something with a smaller profile that I can "just" see over to get a little more wind to my arms, torso, and helmet vents.
