Morning,

A noise and then no drive.

I wouldn't say "snapped" more like destroyed !!
Reasonably easy to remove the threads from the clutch and variator. Twisting the clutch pullies opens them up enough to unwind the threads.

Were there signs ?
Yes but unless you know what they are you wouldn't appreciate what they meant.

The ABS/ASR lights had been coming on and off for a couple of weeks, finally staying on permanently. I changed the rear wheel sensor and the lights went off.

Whilst changing it i had the seat liner and inspection cover off and saw some "fluff" sticking out of the engine case ?? Strange but i pulled it off. It was obviously belt fibres.

After changing the sensor the ASR light would flash and activate when you accelerated hard from the lights, perhaps the new sensor needed time to calibrate ? It reality it was the belt slipping as it fell apart.

A day later it fails.
It was a reasonably priced one on ebay had done about 9000km.

Other than that it is a great scooter !!

That's the red flag you should always be aware of. Driven very conservatively you may have 50 miles or so left to get home, or to a dealer...

Had that happen to my X9 500 in France some years ago on a Saturday afternoon, fluff spotted underneath when coming out of our lunchtime restaurant. Rode very gently to the nearest dealer in Amiens, who had a new belt installed within 30 minutes.

That was an excellent bike - I've been told it's still going strong somewhere oop norf.
