Hi, does anyone know if it is normal for the 4T 125 cc crankshaft to play radially, while rotating it, with a ticking sound, for about one tenth of a degree? I'd think there is piston pin or rod bearing looseness, but I just inspected them while the engine was apart and they are tight. Can this be a piston ring looseness on cold engine? Or maybe it can be a timing chain and/or oil pump chain engagement freeplay? Rotating crank back and forth it is ticking and feels loose by a tin 0.2 degree.
I put it on youtube since mov or mp4, thus I think video generally, isn't accepted on this server. The ticking is audible, although it may be faint due to your audio settings.
Thank you bluecoud, seller said it was 40 K km and it was running, before it was donated to him. I changed timing chain because it was off the marks allignment for half ot the tooth. After that the engine sounded ok, compression was 120 psi cold. Yet the engine was overheating and starting to knock minutes after it starts. With higher octane, A98 I could run longer, for about 4 km and then it starts knocking. I flushed engine and dissasembled it completely. I didn't find any cloged oil passages there, but it was maybe because the flush that I was using for couple of days while driving short distances (flush oil was designed for that). Oil plug O-ring was eaten by flush completely and started to leak, that's why I didnt manage to do final check about overheating. To my surprise, all rubber seals inside, roulgh oil filter's, shaft seals, etc. were ok, only this oil drain pug O-ring was dissolved. Engine inside was clean like new, except babbit bearing on the megneto side that was scored. And the crankshaft oil passage I think could have been cloged. I filled it with flush oil and let it sit there couple of months, now it let's through air and carb cleaner quite well, but oil drip is slow. Connecting rod and piston bearing are ok, no looseness that you can feel with hand or hear. When assembling, I found that timing marks are off by half of the tooth again, with the new timing chain. P.s. I've tested couple of carbs and mixture was far from lean last time I run it. I'm installing the motor back to frame now, slightly increased bypass valve preasure by putting washer to the spring, which was shorter by several milimmeters. Although oil preassure seemed to be normal.
