While I wait for my c clip to arrive...
So from what I can tell, the alloy bracket is a vna only special. From there, Vespa moves into stamped version with 2 bolts.
My question is. What is the original way?
1. I have done mine resting on the brackets ( pretty sure that is wrong
2. Have the stand brackets rest on the cross beam (that feels wrong also). Blue pic
3. Have the stand rest against the bottom of the floorboard ( couldnt find any pics)

My "58 AllState also has the cast alloy 1 bolt brackets but I couldn't remember how they went so I went down and took a look.

Going the other way would make the center stand tips stick out too far in back it seems to me.

Edit: Please ignore, this is wrong and brackets are on backwards! Looks like I put it together like that seven years ago and got away with it until now Facepalm emoticon
This is how they were originally when I got the bike

Thank you. Looks original, although the cross member looks square profile. My after market ones are more round . It's just not a great design-metal on metal right under the bike. The German or the japs would never do this . I thought they d be some rubber buffers at least

This can't be right. If I move the bracket closer to the cross member, the stand is going to be pointing backwards when extended.. to me, it looks like the angled stoppers shd be level with the floorboards so that the stand angles towards the front

They should point towards the front of the frame.

Ok so I 🤔 no I worked it out. The design seems to be like what is shown on Fridays pic. The bracket on the stand rests on top of the alloy brackets flat area. The general dimensions seem to fit. See pic a in my drawing. However my mounting bracket is shallower then 16 mm which is the stand diameter. See pic b. That means that the stand does not fully rotate and meet the mounting bracket

Like this photo. Note that the stand is skewed because I have taken one of the brackets off for the purpose of the photo
That also explains why I can't tighten the bolt fully as
it just jams the stand.
The stand is original and the correct 16 mm diameter. The brakes are repros from sip. At this point, unless I have madd a mistake, the conclusion points to the brackets
Would somebody be be able to have a look at their brackets.?

For the VNA, the stand should rest against the bottom of the floorboard. It's not supposed to rest on the cross beam or just the brackets. Make sure the stand sits snugly against the floorboard for proper support.

Is your stand original or repop? Are you sure the holes in the frame are in the original location, not redrilled?

edit: just saw You said the stand is original. It looks dimensionally larger than others in this post….could be just the pics.

Brackets are repro, so perhaps thats the issue. Have you compared to originals, for fit and dimensions?

See pics of drawing for size problem . If fully tightened the brackets jam the stand

To me the stand looks like a repro. Look at the difference in the spring mount tab shape, and what appears to be the larger supports on your stand. Combine that with repro brackets, that are dimensionally different than original, and the possibly a misplaced holes in the frame; and the tolerances compound. Might just be a case of repro parts just don't fit quite right.

If this is a true original then it's slightly different. The cutout is square, not to be as it is on the sip reproduction https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/394608011028

And are you able to check the height of the opening in the bracket . It looks like the stand pivots inside, so it must be at least 16.1 high when measured flom the floorboard to the top of the opening (in which the stand rotates)

consider topic closed. i machined out another 2.55 of depth in the brackets and all is sweet. except that my holes are approx 5mm too far back, but makes no difference
beware buying sip parts !
