Hi all

Looking at having a custom tank made and replacing the fuel tap (which I don't use - always switched to reserve) with a simple welded in outlet to attach the fuel line etc.

I've a kitted Malossi 210 and a 28mm Mikuni and wanted to check if I might have any issues in terms of petrol flow (too much without the tap), and filtering etc.

Was thinking I'll use an inline fuel tap and filter so feel like this will work?

Cheers

- Matt

No reason you couldn't. You could even use a fuel tap with no lever.

Yes this will work.

Also, if you have a fuel pump in the loop, and the output of the fuel pump loops up to the top of the tank before going down to the carb, then there's really no need for a tap at all.

Brilliant to confirm what I thought!

Was also thinking I'd have the fill cap towards the back of the tank so wouldn't have access for a fuel tap tool etc either.

another thing Iv'e kicked around when a pump is in the loop...

the outlet from the bottom of the tank can be inside a large diameter tube that runs to the top of the tank but is open to the rest of the tank.

the pump can then dump into the top of that tube so it fills the tube to the top and then the rest overflows to the rest of the tank. This simplifies the plumbing and gives the carb the same head pressure all the time.

That's an interesting idea!

Won't be using a pump methinks plus I'll have a pressure transducer off the fuel line for a fuel gauge (which is obviously a very specific setup)

So would interfere with that too

Great idea, i like your thinking.
The tanks with oil reservoir could be the go, as the pipe is already there & goes thru the tank, therefore it only needs a few overflow holes

I've had no tap for years, just a bit of 8mm pipe
