Thx to all who respond. This site is great for my newest Vespa obsession! Ridden 450 miles on '01 ET4. 3050 miles on scooter. Since I bought it, upgraded to Michelin City Grip 2 tires, Bitubo shocks (front/rear), replaced air filter, intake manifold and all fluids. Adjusted idle and it runs great. My first Q is fly screens? Worth the investment? Scooterwest (San Diego) has Cuppini small (13" tall x 17" wide). I like the look without one but do others think it's a game changer in sunny weather? ET4 tops out at 50 mph since I weight 240. 2nd Q is replacing carburetor and brakes? Vespa said aftermarket carburetor (Keihin) at next service will help it run better and brakes at 50% wear but noticed squeak on front wheel. Any feedback welcomed.

Front brake pads - should have at least 1mm, else change them. I am using Malossi pads.

Windscreen - i have a tall one, because of cold. Likely not an issue for you. Wear a full visor helmet, then you will have no issues of any kind - bugs or otherwise. Even at 50mph, the wind force on your body isn't too excessive. If you find wind force excessive, then get a small deflector screen. Full-face helmet with full visor is a must though - wouldn't wear anything else, not safe.

Drive belt and variator rollers should be changed soon. You can change roller weights to get more acceleration or more top speed (trade off).

I weigh a bit more than you. I routinely hit high 50's (by GPS). The Speedo shows low sixties to about 65mph. I don't think the GPS is lying.

I think a valve adjustment might help. It's pretty easy on an ET4.

I use a windshield: too many bugs where I ride. I'd rather they splat on the shield instead of my face.

Sounds like you're having fun, so you've already won!

The fly screen options for an ET are limited.
I fitted one from a Vespa S part number 655523.

Obviously it's not a close seal round the headlight but it does the job and I prefer the look of it to the ET options.

I found someone in the U.K. selling new old stock for £75.

1st pic off the internet as I didn't have one from the front of it fitted to mine. Fits without any modification.

The other nice upgrade I did was to fit LX mirrors. It's not just cosmetic, they work better. Primavera, GT mirrors work also.
One fits straight on, the other I bought an adaptor from beedspeed in the U.K.
