Modern Vespa

I'm looking at buying a 64 Vespa 150. The seller says that it was bored out to 160cc, so it will go 60mph. I'm not really concerned about how fast it will go, my concern is how dependable is a bored out motor. I've heard that once you bore out a motor the dependability is compromised. Would like options on this please.

Hmmm, hard to say without more information. Was it just a cylinder kit? Was the carburetor jetted correctly? Anything done to the bottom end? Lots of variables but you can put on a bigger cylinder and have a dependable engine. Sounds like further investigation is in order and posting pics is a great way to get started. You can always make it stock again depending on what the previous owner actually did to it.

I suspect it was not bored out to a 160; 60mm piston. i say that due to the oversizes available off-the-shelf. i think the seller has misspoken here; probably a different cylinder all together.

Regardless, i bore cylinders here and it does not make it less reliable if the tolerances are correct.

what options are you looking for? what are your expectations?

Thanks for the replies! The seller of the bike says that the previous owner put the engine in who said that it was a bored out 150. The seller then took the bike to a MC dealer, and said that a friend of his who works at the dealership said that the bike's engine is more like a 160 cc engine. My expectations are that the bike runs good and that I don't have long term problems. I haven't seen the bike yet, that's happening next Tuesday. I'm wandering what I might need to be aware of before I buy it .
