I want to take the brake pedal off of this 76 160 sprint and my manual doesn't cover it. It looks like maybe I could drive this pin out but I gave it a couple of taps and it didn't move.

Is this the right way to do this? I don't want to start wailing on it until I'm sure.

That pin comes out the top. Push from underneath and it should slide out.
They can get gummed up with old grease and be a bear to get out.

How do you get to it from the bottom? I can't reach it with a punch.

Ive used an allen wrench smaller in diameter than the pin to push up from the bottom. Use the end of the shorter arm of the allen wrench on the pin, and pull it up pushing the pin out. (much harder to describe than do) You could also pry the pin out the top with a small screwdriver. The pin has a head on it like a nail. Or a needle nose pliers to pull it out the top.

Okay, the Allen key makes sense. I can't fit needlenose pliers in there.

Thanks

Fingers crossed that the pin comes out for you. I gave up on it on my 62GL, I just couldn't shift it from below and didn't want to remove the floor rails so the pedal dropped enough to be able to grip it from above.

throw some heat at it, too, if it's frozen in there.

I messed with it for an hour and it didn't budge. Do those floorboards come off?

They do if you own an angle grinder. Razz emoticon

Seriously, though, if you remove that inner floor rail, you can rotate the pedal enough to get a clear shot at the bottom of the pin with a punch.

Random tricks, share your best little tips & shortcuts (Post 1862036)

This may help you. Looks like yours is more like the first pic. If you have a welder you may be able to stick something to the top & pull it out. Worst case you get to drill it out . The pin has a head on top, remove most of that and punch it out the bottom.

Mine is closer to standing up straight. I'm going to remove the floor rail and try to pull the pin out with needlenose pliers. If that doesn't work I'm going to drill through the floorboard in a spot that won't show and drive it out from the bottom.

Spray some penetrating oil give it a few days a few attempts and even more contemplation before drilling an unnecessary hole in the floorboard.

The pin is tapered once it starts moving it will come out. If the foot pedal isn't moving easy it's not because of the pin.

Lift the pedal so you can tap the pin from the back towards the front

When I said that I thought that there was a spot I could drill through that would be covered by the rails. No such luck.

I drilled it out from the top:

I took one of the floor rails off of this which, of course, involved cutting all of the rivets. Before I go to heroic effort to reclaim the old rail, is there a place where I can buy just one? I only see complete sets for sale.

Not that I'm aware of, but you might put an ask onto scootnet2.net and see if anyone will hook you up.
