if my memory serves me correctly the bezel around the key turns to unlock. there are two small holes or indentations opposite each other that are to facilitate turning. Me thinks to remove it you turn it anti-clockwise.
part #652624, and yes it is easy to break.

Thanks Scott

Will I need to dismantle the panels to get to the ignition barrel itself?, I think thats what is broken?

To get that specific part ( the collar) off I don't think anything else has to come off but if any other part of the switch needs attention then yes more plastic has to be removed, it's not hard but there lots of screws and it is a pain. I have removed all that stuff twice and it's no fun. Facepalm emoticon

Some of the screws are made to be screwed into plastic and some into those bent metal spring nuts and they strip real easy. So if you do have to do it I suggest take lots of pictures to help in putting it all back together correctly. I used a cupcake pan to keep parts separate. Maybe other members could chime in and add some pointers to aid in this process. I don't know if this link will help- https://www.af1racing.com/ProdImages/st3/ETRS000US4.pdf

Ah got the new ignition on, but as I was putting it back together the hand brake cable snapped can you believe it, this bike is poor quality to say the least

Anyone got any ideas on how to botch this together I was thinking a connector block to join it but would need a new piece to go into the slot

I'd replace it. It's not that fiddly - getting the plastic off that you've already done was the worst part when I did it way back when! When it's off I bet you find the old outer has cracked and started to rust somewhere near the back.

Thanks man

Do I have to take more plastic off to get the handbrake cable all the way through the body, ah I'm drained I tell you 😂 😵😵😵

I presume you started at the back to remove the plastic - this should give you enough eyeball clues to pull the new cable through with the old. The only gotcha will be if and when the old one has been hard clamped with a zip-tie or whatever.

Got it thanks, I'm going to try the simple fix of a end wire repair bit where you screw it down, see if that works

If you can find some of those crimps for wire rope you might get away with that. I don't think chocolate block will last very long - but you could try that. Cut the plastic off.

Replace the cable with a new one. Anything else is a band aid fix.

The cable broke because it is binding.
