According to my owner's service schedule my Liberty150i is to have a "diagnosis by tool" at a Piaggio dealer at 1000km, 5000km and then every subsequent 5000km interval.

What is it in my Piaggio that requires these periodic returns to the dealer's diagnostic tool?

My 12 yr old Kymco's engine is also EFI, runs flawlessly - and has no requirement for periodic dealer "diagnosis" in the service schedule.

If my Liberty threatened to become unreliable without a dealer diagnosis every 3,000 miles - well - with so few dealers in the USA, guess how long I'd keep a scooter that had to go 60 miles for frequent check-ups!

My Liberty has been flawless for 7 years, and has never been back to the dealer. (not my doing. He folded his tent soon after my purchase)

So - why that specification in my manual? Is my Liberty missing out on improved .....whatever?

O.S.
PS: obviously this is just me being curious - because I've no intention of racing off across Ohio to find a dealer plug-in.
what's going on in there that needs so much professional help?

purpose

software updates (eg tweaks to fuel mapping during warmup).

check for engine codes (including not currently visible but were recently).

updates for bluetooth module bugs (if the optional bluetooth is installed).

etc

Piaggio are just not taking into account the 'local' dealer situation in North America - in Europe there's a dealer every 10 to 20 miles for the most part. Plus the European dealers (at least the ones I've met) don't charge extra for doing the diagnostic checks, they just do them routinely.

And another reason, found this in the docs for the MIUG3 (yes your liberty has a different ecu but same principal)

"It is advisable to reset the Auto-adaptive parameters after an engine service and after cleaning the air filter and/or the throttle body."
