la avispa

Have a modern Primavera and a P200E.
Would líke an 8" wheel one. Preferrably as small as it comes. Performance is not an issue so 50 is ok.
My question is which model(s) best look for? Ah and I´d like a round headlight, though that is only half a want.

Thank you.

So a 50 like a small frame?

I think those are mostly 10s and maybe some 9" weirdos.

For 8" I would look for a vnb. The small block engines can be easily upgraded to make the scoot a real goer and rolling on 8's is ridiculous fun.

Don't shy away from the early 3 speed vnb's either. With a good top end and pipe they will eat hills geared stock.

Thank you for the clarification about the small frames. Saw a 50 with 9" and thought that an error which was in fact mý error Facepalm emoticon

3 speed would not put me off; would think that an extra

VNB´s are getting to be silly money here though.

2500 - 4000 € for a nice one in good fettle and complete paperwork.

Seventies small frames are always for sale at reasonable prices hence I looked at those.
A delightful as new 125 SL I saw at the night run in Lucena is for sale asking 3300 €.

Over here the VBB was mainly for sidecar fitment and mány more VNBs were sold.
Because of the 125 being allowed for use with a car driving license and the 150 not, the VBBs are actually less popular than the smaller sister.

I like 4 x 8s. Imo they just have good aesthetics. They work excellent with 3 speeds too. I have a 177 3 speed allstate (not pictured) that has zero power issues on big hills.

There are currently three 8" MotoVespas for sale within reasonable distance.
One ´56 with exposed handlebars, a ´58 and a ´60. All 3 speed. The former 2 in rat look with original patina.
The ´58 was redone from 0, incl. tuned engine; horizontal modern carb, fuel pump, etc. Have asked for more detail.

another one at 80 kms only. It´s a ´58 MotoVespa 125N. Asking an appearently reasonable 3500€ so there is bound to be a paperwork issue.
Maybe leosanchez88 can shed some light on that. Will drop by at the local gestoria too.

I think you might want to decide first if you want to get into the true oldies (piston port, handlebar models) or just into the next era (VBB/VNB) because the engines, tuning parts, model parts, etc. are so much easier once you get out of the handlebar models. But it's just something to think on.

This motovespa you are showing looks to be in that earlier era, which has its own advantages and disadvantages. Pretty bike though!

Thank sdjohn. Good advice that.

The same seller also has a a ´56 ´handlebar´ model. It is an untouched survivor with only 11.000 Kms from new.
Different price though...

Yeah I'm scared to go into the older piston ported ones, the motors are so different and you need different tools and knowledge than the ones that follow, so for me that's "exotic" territory.

Another nice looking bike there.

Right.
If desiring 8" then best model with rotary engine.
If desiring smallest then go early small frame and accept it´s 10".

THANKS!!

There is btw a whole series of small frame 75cc models unique to MotoVespa:

Vespa 75 08C
Vespa 75 U-2 PR 9.300.001
Vespa 75 Primavera T3 PN 9.320.001
Vespa 75 PK Primavera PK 9.330.001
Vespa PK 75 S Electronic 3 56 C 00011
Vespa PK 75 S Elestart 67 C 00011
Vespa 75 Junior (PK 75 S Electronic 3) PS 9.350.001 or 72C
Vespa 75 XL 96 C 00011
Vespa 75 FL Elestart 127 C 00011

The range starts in 1967 with the 08C which was equal to the 50 of the day. Apparently very few were produced until the PK versions the first of which (aka known as model Junior) had no indicators are were the only such of the PK.

And that is the extend of info I can find Crying or Very sad emoticon If anyone has more I would lóve to know.

I kind of like the idea this is a MotoVespa only thing.

Hmmm.... a 1962 VNB MotoVespa. ´Modern´ engine, 3 speed.
Documents all sorted and attractive pricing.
What not to like? Well it is at the other side of Spain Ok, ok, relatively close by US standards.

that's a good looking bike

I'm not sure I understand what "modern" engine means when you also say that it is still a 3 speed. If it's a 3 speed, isn't it likely a 2 port engine? It would still be better than the old piston port engine if that's the case, but what does "modern" engine mean?

Also - just for kicks - what is he asking price-wise? I'm curious what these things go for in Spain.

´Modern´ between brackets because it is the new design rotary with carb on top but still 3 speed.

In ´60/61he VNB gets the same rotary design as the VBB got per ´58.
From what I can gather the rotary engine gets the square speedo and the next step to 4 sp. in ´63 gets the chromed drop model rear light.

Prices are 3,5 to 6K €. This one is asking 3,9.

The piston ported ones (bocolo in Spanish) are a bit dearer. Same seller has two ´bocolo´ engined scooter for sale too. The ´56 is same level and 4.9.

The early 9" small frames tend to be more coveted but more widely available and about on par in price for comparable condition.
Apples and pears for same money.
For me it is between quirky 8" handling and the ditto of the diminutive small frame.

A trivial bit of info: In ´54 MotoVespa produced after market high mounted headlamp kits to replace the mudguard mounted ones. Nówadays there are several mud guard mount kits on offer to emulate the retro look.

Anóther side note I mentioned earlier; the MotoVespa only 75.

The brown roll above the claxon is period Town Hall tax receipt holder.

smallframes are a different game altogether. they are fun and nimble and can be tuned to do crazy things. they have better weight balance. they fit in small places. and they have such a small fuel tank that you will need to carry extra fuel. but they are quite different to the large frames.

Polini 130 cc cilinder (iron 7 port)
Ports in cases matched
Reinforced clutch
Mazzuchelli crank
Polini CP Carb
Tecnigas exhaust.

Looks pretty good to me, that's a beautiful bike and I do love PKs. They handle better than older smallies and that MotoVespa version w/ no blinkers is unique. More PK info here: PK love page

Thanks for the link v oodoo

Have contacted the seller even though he is located at the very edge of the northern coast.
Thát 75 ticks all my boxes.

The bike is booked for a photo shoot in two weeks. He will contact me then. No hurry and very busy anyway.
Fingers crossed.

No, it is a real PK, just that the first production run was 75 cc and they could legally get away with being cheap skates and omit indicators for this model aimed at moped riders stepping up.
This particular one has earlier mudguard and cascade for the retro look of it.

So ok, thát is the box it does not tick Facepalm emoticon

Anyway, would be ´nice´ to wheel it between the other two. Superlight little revving ´racer´ in retro look.
So, patience.

The white one is a ´65 75 with 9".

The red one is a (PK) 75 Junior of ´79 - ´80 with 10".

They bóth tick boxes.
The white basically all but the red is simply a better bike with already a hot kit and suspension upgrade.

So I wánt the red one but the white one is probably more vfm being restored to original specs.

As the red one is on hold till Sept., so I will probably go have a look at the white one.
The red is more €€s and will probably get me into speed trouble.*

* I raced for >2 decades, IoM TT incl., and have a fun fine which my son framed. Mu charming company has put a photo of me jumping Ballaugh Bridge with a road bike on the most prominent place in the salon. Going 1936 Nimbus and Vespas has a reason Facepalm emoticon
