Hi there, I was hoping that someone could shed some light on something for me.

I am renovating my engine on my V50 and after opening up the casings I have noticed a rather large section of casing that seems a little lower than the rest of the area where the crank sits and turns.

The problem comes obviously that when the crank is seated in its bearing then on every turn it is hitting this 'lip' of metal.

Does anyone have any idea of what this could be, why its there, what I should do about it?

Also attached a close up of it as I thought it was a crack but its actually part of when I think, the engine was cast.

It's fine, that's casting markings, crank doesn't fully contact the cases. Most important thing is the deep groove around that's there to seal the rotary pad…

Hi there SaFiS

Thanks so much for clearing that up for me. Thought my engine had had some major malfunction down the line before I bought it.

I can continue the renovation with a calmer mind now

All the best
