Hi

I recently purchased a Vespa GTV 250.

A new scooter is in my garage. It´s a 2008 vespa gtv 250.

I have update the corresponding maintenance: engine oil, oil filter, hub oil, coolant liquid, brake liquid check.

I have replaced voltage regulator and thermostat (they were in poor condition)

The scooter has a noise like decompression when you turn off the engine.

This noise is made when it has been on for a short time.

If the motorcycle is started for more than 5 minutes, it does not make the sound.

I attach a video with the sound I comment.

Is it normal?

What could be the reason for that noise?

Thank you

That sounds like the clutch bell and final drive gears spinning down.

It the rear tire spinning prior to shutdown?

Yes, it happens when it turns off at idle, even on the centre stand

It definitely is something that is spinning around and is slowing down to a stop when you switch off the engine.
It is not the clutch bell nor the final gear because your rear wheel is not turning when you switch off the engine. They do not spin then.

The pulleys and the belt in the transmission are supposed to be fixed to the crank shaft and stop spinning when the engine stops without time lag.

Still it seems most probable to me it is something in the transmission.

If you see yourself capable of it I would remove the transmission cover and find out if something in there is causing the noise.

It is a 2008 GTV 250. It is quite old but it has the 250cc Quasar engine that has a good reputation.
How does it drive? Do you experience anything unusual then?

Do you have any information on service done on the scooter? And specifically on the transmission?

Hi

I will remove the transmission cover and do visual inspection and cleaning of what will cause the noise.

The scooter belonged to an elderly person who died. His grandson sold me the gtv (grandson didn´t have motorcycle driving license)

The Vespa had not been used for years and without maintenance checks made.

I have no history or previous repairs of the vehicle.

In motion de bike works fine. It has strength and does not make noises

I have done all the maintenance myself

I'm uneasy with that noise when I turn off the engine at idle

Can it be noise between bell and clutch when stopping??

I don't think it's a normal sound

thanks for all!!

The sound is very similar to the one in the next video but much louder!!!

in that video the rear wheel was turning for a couple of seconds after the engine was stopped.

Try feeling the starter when stopping the engine, if it is the starter motor spinning. The starter motor sprague clutch might engage as the engine kicks back at TDC, slowing down to a stop.

hi

the last months i was
updating a vespa gtv 250 ( 2008)

Complete maintenance done.

I replaced the variator with Malossi Multivar 2000 with 12.5 gram rollers.

Among other changes, I replaced the clutch due to the low thickness of the shoes.

The sound is produced with the rear wheel moving when you turn off the scooter.

what could it be?

Videos today

When you brake, the noise stops.
any friction on the hood? clutch?

Maybe the piston inside the brake caliper is not retracting. When you apply the brake the pressure pushes the pads in, so the noise stops.

Maybe it needs a good cleaning/lube/new pads.

your brake is dragging, typically the rear wheel will rotate while idling on the center stand, yours is NOT. You can also hear the pads dragging after you throttle up and let off on it coasting.

Check the level of the lubricant in the rear reduction box, and do it today! No one ever checks that and running it low or dry can destroy a lot of expensive things. The fact that it spins the rear wheel but that the wheel stops with the noisy run-down may mean that either a brake pad is dragging or the rear reduction is dry.

If the reduction box is well-filled, then there is something restricting the rear pads from moving all the way off. It could be a restriction in the return into the master cylinder or at the caliper.

There can be a normal run-down sound any time you turn off the engine while it's on the center stand, but it's not very loud. It it's on the side stand or you are stopped but not yet on any stand there is no run-down sound.

There is no doubt it goes with the rotation of your rear wheel.

It could be a brake pad, as has been suggested, but the sound does make me think of a worn bearing, or a dry running bearing somewhere in the final transmission between clutch and rear wheel.

Could rip the pads out of the caliper (remove wheel first) and see if it's still noisy.

Also I'd be checking bearings in the exhaust bracket (often called swing arm) and in the transmission cover.

If they are smooth then I'd drain the transmission final drive gear oil (pick your own name) and check it for sparkles - check the level first.

The last few days I`ve had a very heavy workload and I havent been able to make progress on the extrange sound vespa gtv 250

I Check the level of the lubricant in the rear reduction box . It was correct, and no presents sparkles . I replaced the oil with a new one.

i removed the transmission cover and the bearing was not in good condition and i replaced it for a new one

the strange sound continues

the sound is produced with the scooter on the center stand.

When the scooter is on the center stand at idle without accelerating, the scooter don´t move the rear wheel. If I turn off the engine at that moment, no noise is produced.

With the scooter on the center stand at idle, if I accelerate the rear wheel moves.

If I stop the engine with the rear wheel moving the sound appears
until the wheel stops or i used the rear brake

the noise occurs with the rear wheel in the air (center stand) when you turn off the engine and lasts until the wheel stops or you brake it

next step??

Check swing arm bearing ? (exhaust bracket)

brake pads???

thanks

1. remove swing arm and check bearing.
2. while swing arm is removed take off the wheel then remove brake pads then put wheel + swing arm on then turn wheel by hand.
3. remove transmission cover take clutch assembly out and turn wheel by hand.

What happens if you spin the rear wheel with the engine off? Just spin it by hand. You might be able to find where the noise is coming from.

good idea!

turning the wheel by hand, the noise still occurs!

After this, remove the exhaust and swing arm. The bearing seems in good condición

The next step remove the wheel and remove the brake calliper.

brake pads are half-life and I replace them

Spinning the rear wheel and disc brake the noise continúe...

Last video itsnt present brake calliper and spinning brake disc the noise continues

Remove clutch bell and turn by hand. Then remove whole clutch assembly and turn.

After several weeks spending the little free time I have, the noise has disappeared with the latest advances and changes

the last changes were the driven half pulley bearings....

Bearing clutch/converter rear 17x30x7 mm 483261 - 82753R and Bearing converter/gear box cover 20x29x18 mm 82518R

Now with the vespa on the stand, the rear wheel always turns smoothly...

The idle sound is softer and does not make that deceleration or rubbing sound when you turn off the engine on the center stand

thanks for all!!!

next stop learn the best roller weight for the malassi multivar 2000 kit

The malossi kit comes with 14 and 16 grams rollers and white spring

After reading a multitude of posts and articles, I also have 12.5 and 13 gram malosi rollers.

but....What is the best option?
