At 75 years old, I fell and broke four ribs in my upper left back. (Not riding related). The whole crappy deal, pain and trouble breathing because coughing was so painful. Nothing to do but let time heal everything.

I have missed at least two group scooter rides and have not been on two wheels for the last 8 weeks. As many of you know, other stuff occurs due to the original injury. I have been debilitated for 8 weeks (not getting exercise) and I am very weak. Now, trying to get my strength back to jump on the scooter.

Down and out in Minnesota - missed a chunk of Summer,

Bob Copeland
At least my riding group says they have not gotten lost since I could not lead.

Glad to hear you're healing. Unfortunately you can lose a lot of ground being out of action. Hope you get strength back ASAP. Missed you this summer!

Get better, Bob! Work hard to get your strength back. It's not as easy as when we were young. But persistance and stubborness are your friends in these situations.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Be sure to walk as soon as you can and as much as you can bear. I have the Horizon 101 treadmill in my apartment. I use it daily. Also, there are lots of Tai Chi videos on You Tube. Good luck.

I've had injuries like that previously and only time will heal them.

Set modest intermediate goals for your recovery. Small incremental improvements will help ensure a full recovery.

I had a minor accident last November that aggravated older injuries. I've also missed most of this riding season. Just got my Vespa back last week and looking forward to riding over the next few months of our riding season.

Best wishes for you Bob! You got this!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement. I really want to keep riding as long as I can. Several in my riding group stayed on two wheels into their 80's. I do not think I have the genetics to ride that long.

One common characteristic of these physically capable older folks was fast or regular walking a mile or two a day. Seems to be the magic.

Bob, thanks for the update, I love your positive attitude - stories like yours keep me going! I feel for you as I have also not been able to ride for many months as well. I am looking at spinal fusion soon and hopefully will have a full recovery by next Spring I think walking as much as you can helps as well as keeping your weight down to an receptable level. You got this - heal up, you still have plenty of rides ahead!

From one former (recovering?) Minnesotan to a current Minnesotan, heal up, Bob, and at least consider dragging your GTS out here next year, and not only will I show you all the good Black Hills scootering roads, I'll buy you a big fat muffin at The Pump House in Deadwood.
