While replacing my ignition switch I guess I must have lost the rubber band that secures the glove box latch. I was preparing to remove the glove box again to fix it but remembered that one of the bolts that secure the glove box to the frame is INSIDE THE GLOVE BOX. I've read that it's possible to free the latch by going through the left knee pad but I couldn't get my hand on the latch. Is there a definitive thread here that can help me out. I'm stuck.

Yeah, that thread seems to be focused on how to correctly refit the glovebox with it open. My issue is I can't open the box at all and can't find a way to unlatch it without potentially drilling a large hole for access. I've had my hand crammed into the left kneepad opening a dozen times and I can't seem to find the latch.

Sorry about that....

Have you tried going in through the horn cover on the front. You should be able to unbolt a few things to make more room for your hands. I had to use this approach when doing some wiring for my LED DRL/Turnsignal kit.

Just listed the GTS for sale. I'm inclined to leave it for now as I was able to pry the box enough to get my paperwork out. Should the bike not sell I can always drill an access hole through the box cover if I need to remove the box again. Really poor design if you ask me. Did some forum searches and found MANY people that experienced this issue but no real bulletproof solution other than fishing around in the left kneepad, which hasn't worked for me.

Thanks though

Any 5 year old with a screwdriver could pry the glovebox off in about 5 seconds. Not sure what kind of theft deterrent that latch is. Like the immobilizer system itself just feel like it's more trouble than it's worth, although if I lived in a high crime area or parked on city streets I might feel differently. If I were buying new and had the option to NOT have all of the anti theft stuff installed I'd probably not bother with it.
