Hi There

My scooter usually starts up and sounds perfect. I noticed that yesterday it just sounded different when starting. Like more labored......then when I turned the throttle, back wheel still moves but seems not as fast and throttle seems not as smooth.....like almost like there is a gap feeling if that makes sense - then I rode it and ran some errands and it seemed fine. I have 11,400 miles and have plans on taking it in around 12 - 12,500 for service. I had a service done around 7000-8000 miles

The video is set to "private" and therefore cannot be viewed.

If you turn the throttle while the Vespa is on the center stand, the ASR should cut out on a GTS (as there is no plausible signal from the front wheel). Switch off the ASR for testing on center stand…

My scooter sounded like that once when the exhaust was loose. Try checking that all the exhaust nuts & bolts are tight.

Alternatively, there may be something amiss in the transmission, like a loose variator nut. Do you have the tools to remove the CVT cover and inspect?

Put a gloved hand over the exhaust outlet at idle. Feel for a leak at the bushing and where the manifold bolts to the engine with your other ungloved hand.

It rides fine. I plan on taking it in in about 600 miles. Do you think it's safe to keep riding or should I take it in sooner? I honestly don't have the ability to do anything that you all suggest

As you say it rides fine, I doubt that there's anything wrong with the transmission. That leaves the possibility that it's the exhaust or something else that's loose and vibrating. Without tools, you could try as Abner says and feel or listen for exhaust leaks. I would try holding my foot (lightly) against the exhaust shield and listening for a change in the sound. I'd also try holding the license plate, and I'd look for anything rattling around in the pet carrier. Does the sound change if you stop the rear wheel spinning by using the rear brake? Don't rev the engine when you do this!

You're probably due for a new belt at the next service, so the transmission will be checked at that time.

Good luck!

as GermanGTSDriver said, always turn off ASR while on the stand and turning the throttle. always.

mind you, there is a rattle sound that I here ... use your ears to work out from roughly where. eg cvt cover or under the pet carrier etc
