Good Afternoon,

Our scooter was stolen, but my eagle-eyed wife spotted it a few blocks away and we got it back. In addition to trashing the horn cover upfront to get at the ignition and the latch plate under the seat to see if anything valuable was in there, the thief destroyed the ignition switch and cut off the plug that goes into it from the wiring harness. So, I now have an ignition barrel with no switch and a set of four ignition wires with no plug to go into the switch. Easy enough to order a new switch, but does anyone know how to replace the plug on the wiring harness? Or, alternatively, does anyone know the part number for that part of the wiring harness? Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to MV and congrats to your first post!

Which Scooter (Modell, Year)? Best post first nine digits of your VIN…
Does your scooter has a immobilizer (brown & blue/black keys)?

Do you have some photos of the damage?

Thanks for responding. It's a 2003 Vespa ET2, which I do not think has an immobilizer, first nine of VIN : ZAPC16C10. Black key head. Here are photos. Switch was completely broken, black back plate missing and the green housing was coming apart in pieces so I removed it and trashed it. Here are photos of damage.

Thanks. It's ET2 50. Went to local dealer. Got the switch but they can't get the plug without getting the entire wiring loom for the bike. I'm going to have to improvise with some blade connectors. They gave me this photo from a later model two stroke they had there to help me figure out what goes where.

Totally agree with you. First thing I did was take out the battery. Tried to hook it up the way they described but I'm getting nothing, not even horn or lights. Quick question, there are two green wires on the right. Do you think they get wired into the same blade connector into position 4 on the plug? I've tested the battery.

From page 38 in service manual below, should give you some help, I would also check all the fuses.

Well, turns out I'm just a blind old guy. Checked the fuse a few days ago and looked OK to me. For good measure, I checked again today up to the light and turns out the thief had blown it. Replaced it and now have electrics. Starter turns and lights come on. Now on to the carb problem I had before the theft (which is what probably kept him from getting away with it). A rare case where I have benefitted from my chronic laziness. THis may not be factory pretty, but she got the job done. I had to use the blue wire to extend the existing because they had been cut short.

Glad you found the fuse, seems you have invented a carb antitheft device, patent it quick.

Haha. That's what my wife said. Drained gas today. Petcock blocked. Bought a new one. Will install tomorrow and get some new gas. That should get me running. Then I'll bring to dealer to clean carb. That's a bit beyond my abilities.

OK. Replaced the petcock and fuel line and made sure vac line was clear. Still no joy. Tried with starter and kick. Spark plug looks good and has good connection. What do folks think? Carb problem? Can see fuel in the line but also a bit of air. TIA

It could well be the kill switch if they damaged that area, check thread below, some good tips.

Ha! Thanks. That's actually my thread from years ago. Same Vespa. Turned out to be the CDI that time. I couldn't remember password for Morrepe account and got lazy and created a new one. I'll check the kill switch relay this time though. Could be the CDI again, I suppose. But wouldn't be surprised if it's the kill switch. They tore the ignition switch apart, which is right next to it.

Had to look it up. From the urban dictionary...

"scrote
-noun- Literally short for scrotum. When a person, usually a male, is so useless and insignificant that they do not deserve the tiny effort it takes to spit out a second offensive syllable; less than a scrotum."

I am not running for any political offices and I approve of this message!

I checked the link to check out the CDI. Red and white wires at CDI (with CDI disconnected) checked OK. Almost nothing on green. Next step is to check green at the flywheel connector. Just starting raining, so will have to wait for tomorrow.
