Hi all. This is my first time posting . I live in the UK and have been thinking about getting a vespa for ages. Looked at a lot of 125's and always came back to the Vespa. I am 6ft 5 and most bikes just aren't made for me.
Apart from the obvious fun reasons I think it will be practical for a second vehicle. My wife and I now share a car as both work from home 4 days a week. I would use it to commute 15 miles to work once a week most of the year unless really icy and on the odd occasion when we both need a vehicle - not very ofren. I think it would be fine for this.
However my family are 130miles away who I fist 5 or 6 times a year. Most of the time it will be the car anyway, and I can drive down the A1 to in about 3 hrs. The stretch isn't motorway status. The A68 could also get my there in more or less the same time which is all single carriageway at 60 mph. As someone who has never had a bike or scooter in my head the A68 would doable on a 125cc gts with 14 hp in under 4 hours. Is this feasible? Are there loads of things I am not thinking about?
Many thanks

Before responding to your post, I just watched this video of a German man riding a GTS125 on a two-lane highway at 80-100 kph. It looks like a Primavera 150 to me, and it seems to have about the same power. The rider seemed to think it was adequate on the road he was on.
Do you like the seat on the GTS125? You will need a comfy seat for a ride that long.
Will your wife be o.k. riding the scooter if you go alone to visit relatives with the car and she needs to go somewhere?
Is your route 2-lane each way so that you can get to the slow lane when necessary?
Anyway, the GTS125 is an attractive scoot. Enjoy whatever you buy!
I ride a Sprint 150 (I added a short windscreen at purchase time), and I enjoy the most going 35-45 mph, but it will go over 60 when necessary. Also, I had them install a side stand when I purchased it, too. Comes in handy often.

GTS sounds the choice.

Maybe even a 300?

Thanks for all the replys. My wife will not be using it just me. I have been thinking about going back to 2 cars for the odd time we need two but they will just sit there and depreciate.
I was thinking of the 300 but we have quite a strange motorcycle licence system in the UK - it probably is for the best safety wise, but I would need to spend close to £1000 to get the licence and it might not for me. Will spend £200 to get the CBT certificate required for the 125cc and then the expenditure on safety gear - will be Toreador Pants, and of course the vespa. Due to the very strong second hand prices here seems best to go all out and buy new at about £5k

If the difference between 125cc and 300cc on the license is £800 ($1050 / 950€). Then I would go for the 300cc with your requirements. If only for the fun factor...

Safety equipment costs the same, of course the 300cc Vespa GTS also costs a little more than the 125cc, but as I said the fun...

Go to a showroom and have a sit on some. The seat is flat so you just slide back if you need more space.

I'm on a small frame 125cc Sprint and I can't put both my feet flat on the ground when I stop at a traffic light… and I'm 6'1"! So I don't think height is an issue at all.

I took my Sprint to Italy and back with only 11hp.

Don't expect to be bumping off the top speed limiter all the time as wind and hills will bring your top speed down. On dual carriageways, you'll mostly be sat behind a lorry doing 55mph as the slipstream they offer is huge… or more than likely you'll end up discovering a nicer, more interesting route!
