The problems really just keep on comming with the PK but thats just how it is i guess Laughing emoticon

I swapped the rear break pads about 8 months ago, it was one of the first things i did because the rear break was pulsing really bad. The pulsing went away, breaking power increased and i forgot all about it. Here are the ones i got: https://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/brake-shoes-newfren-antiaqua-10-front-or-rear-180200-61034-for-vespa-pk50-125-s-xl-xl2-pk50-xl-fl-hp-n-rush-px-t5_87335000?usrc=Brake%20Pads

They have been quiet untill recently when they have started sounding like some unholy mix between an airhorn and a freight train comming to a stop.

I took the drum off and saw nothing unexpected. All looked like it did when i installed it. I cleaned it all with break clean and an expected amount of break dust washed away, then i wiped it off with some paper and waited for it to dry before putting back together.

It became even worse after this. It is so bad that i dont feel like i can use the rear break at low speed anymore, especially in town. The stopping power is still great but the sound is unacceptable.

Did i mess up something in my install? Something poorly adjusted? Are some breakshoes just like this?

You've got some crazy harmonics going on there! I've never had that problem with drums but only disc brakes. Had to install a new set of pads to get rid of the noise. Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. You might be able to break the glaze in the drum with a Scotchbrite pad or sandpaper and try again.

Maybe some component is loose and vibrating when it shouldn't be. Backing plate properly tightened ? O-rings in there ? Try greasing the pivot pin(s) and the cam faces ?

Sounds like a plan. I will try to get some brake work in the next few days. Need to figure out what is causing the front brake to bind too. I am suspecting a lack of grease on the pin there.

I will make sure to tighten down any bolts i come across when i have the rear appart too, but i am fairly sure i torqued everything to spec when i was in there the first time.

Is there any point to doing anything to the shoes? like smooth out the edges or something with some grinding?
