I have a Topeak Explorer bike rear rack https://www.topeak.com/us/en/product/145-EXPLORER-(NON-DISC)-(W-O-SPRING) and a Topeak MTX metal mesh basket https://www.topeak.com/us/en/product/156-MTX-BASKET-REAR which I have been using on my bicycle for quite a few years. Recently I wanted to use the same Topeak MTX metal basket on my Vespa LX50 scooter, because I greatly appreciated the quick-release function of the Topeak system ( and I didn't want to buy a second basket solely for use on the Vespa).

I bought a Topeak Omnitrack Adapter https://www.topeak.com/us/en/product/1323-OMNI-QUICKTRACK-ADAPTER to see if I could fit it onto the rear rack of my Vespa. My rear rack is a spring-loaded Faco model. The bars on my Faco rack go left to right, which is not compatible with the Omnitrack adapter fittings, and the 14mm bars are too thick. So I bought a few other parts to see if I could make it all work another way.

I bought 4 M5x30mm bolts (with tapered hex head), 4 nuts for these bolts, and an assortment of rubber-lined pipe clamps. I wasn't sure what sizes of pipe clamps would be needed, so I bought packs of 25mm, 20mm, 18mm, 16mm, and 14mm. Each pack had 5 clamps. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806074714130.html

At first I tried to install the Omnitrack in the standard direction (front/back) using the longer bolts and the pipe clamps, but the Omnitrack was too long for the rack. So I put the Omnitrack left/right on the rack. Each attachment point to the M5x30 bolt is with a 25mm and a 20mm pipe clamp (the 25mm on the rearmost bar) - this seemed to make it tight enough. There are 4 attachment points.

The Omnitrack is extremely well supported and securely attached to the Faco rack. The Topeak basket has enough room to slide into the Omnitrack, and yet also be close clearance enough that the basket keeps the spring-loaded Faco rack in the down position. When I remove the Topeak basket, the Faco rack snaps back into the rest position. It works flawlessly. The Topeak basket does hang about 1/3 off the rear of the rack, so if I have a heavy load in the basket then I run a bungee cord through the basket to the front of the rack to keep the weight more distributed to the front of the rack where the support is. I also have a cargo net and a rainproof basket cover.
