Just a public service announcement to those that use hardwired battery maintainer cables.

I have about 300 miles on my 2024 GTS.
I smelled something "off" from the Vespa last time out about a week ago. Didn't give it much thought, as new things smell funky as they break in.
Well, today I went to plug in the [dealer installed] battery maintainer, and it didn't work. Zip, zero, nada. I'm like "WTH"? Long story short, found the 15A fuse popped on the maintainer battery terminal end. That's weird. Replaced the fuse, still no love. Pulled out the harness from under the scoot, and found the following below.
That could have been ugly!
Not sure if the dealer routed it incorrectly, and it got pinched/too close to the exhaust, or if the wiring was faulty. Either way, another one of life's humbling lessons.

Dealer has made an offer to make it right. Good on them.
Let's be careful out there!

The idea of it dangling underneath - hell no. I routed mine into my glovebox

Indeed. I was offered to have my scooter picked up, new part installed, and returned. I politely declined and just asked for a new cable instead.

Its a pity that stock battery tender cables are only 18" appx. If they made them 3' you could be more creative about where to house the plug and keep it away from heat/dirt/water etc.

On my road bike, the battery is in a dummy fuel tank, so the flying lead 18" pops out just behind the headlight , protected by the fairing. Perfect!

My BV 300 has a classical cigarette lighter socket in the front right compartment.
It is directly on the battery not behind the ignition key, and protected by a fuse.

I use that socket to connect the maintainer. I do not remember the size of the fuse but my maintainer cannot deliver a too high current.

It is an extremely practical solution.

You can get them in almost any length. Here is a link to a 3 footer:

(Sorry for the crazy long url - I am not sure how to properly shorten.)

Here's something that makes life a little simpler for those machines with the Euro5 connector:
https://www.scooterwest.com/euro5-battery-tender-plug-vespa-hpe2-2023-vespa-primavera-sprint-150.html

Of course, I find this out today, one day after I rerouted the replacement standard cable received from my dealer Laughing emoticon
