I picked up a 2009 used mp3 500 and its muffler is a lot louder than my 2010 250cc MP3 I had. Is this normal or did they upgrade the pipe? Regardless, what is a quiet pipe I could get for it? I miss how quiet my MP3 250 was.[img][/img]

thanks for adding pics.
stock oem exhaust when you start it can you feel exhaust around the clamp area? if so you might get away with a little tightening of the clamp. if that doesn't work you need to change the exhaust graphite bushing. also check where the pipe goes into the head for exhaust leak. there is a gasket there as well. finally the down pipe has the sensor on it make sure that is not leaking either. if you have to take the exhaust can off shake it to ensure the guts are not loose and rattling around. if so you can replace it with aftermarket or find a used oem. |

As most have said surely the bushing, was covered here a few years ago, not sure if links work anymore to bushing.

I put my hand around the bushing and I couldn't feel any air pressure, Or hear any sound coming from that area. Do you think it would still be the bushing?
I went for a ride today and it definitely seems like all the sound is coming out of the tailpipe like normal. Although I did notice going downhills or when I let off the throttle it's not a nice sound is kind of popping and uneven sound. There's only 6000 miles on the bike I was wondering if the mesh that's supposed to be around the baffle Is bad... So I'm assuming I should change out the bushing anyway because it's the cheapest thing to do and if that doesn't work is there an aftermarket pipe that's quieter than stock that's cost effective? Or is the stock pipe the better choice? Thank you so much! |

Thank you so much! the packing on the inside is not bad. it might be bad after 50-60,000 miles but even then I have know that exhaust can to have 75-100,000 and still be good. any after market WILL be slightly louder or more than stock, have never heard an aftermarket that is the same or quieter. The graphite gasket could be bad but if your not feeling any exhaust coming from around it probably not. |

to me your biggest concern should be the age of those original tires as they are 15 years old
also knowing those are original I pretty sure that exhaust has never been taken off the scoot. now on to the original variator belt. that also probably has never been replaced and as rubber ages it will delvelope cracking and dry rot so that also should be changed , if it breaks they make a hell of a mess. |
