Got an Motovespa 200 9DS engine from Spain which was missing the ignition parts but otherwise complete. Based on the mounting points of stator plate it has been equipped with Femsatronic ignition which will not be an option to source. I just want the reliable and easily available Ducati sparks.

For comparison a Ducati equipped block looks like this

You almost could drill and tap some holes and just throw in a Ducati stator plate on the lower step of the machined surface. Difference in height was 0,2mm which is not a problem. Main enemy here is that the diameter of the machining is around 4mm larger than the Ducati stator plate. I don't want to make a ring to center it so I will weld on some more material and have it machined to take in the Ducati plate.

The crankshaft is also specific to Femsatronic with it's super stubby cone so the whole engine has to be disassembled to swap that out. While the engine is in parts, it can be cleaned and prepped for the welding at the same time.

Engine has never been splitted before but man has this thing been eating oil

Things are just tad worn as expected but nothing is really broken

SIP do a Vape kit for it, includes a new crank. I'm not sure that the base plate is different to accommodate the casting or if that's just the regular base plate.

You do not have to swap out the FEMSA crank; in fact, keep it. Use a real VAPE ignition for FEMSA ignition here-

search around as it is offered in different variations, AC/DC/Static/Varible.

That's a good option I bought a new femsa crank for my rally a year ago and didn't want to convert to the px setup.

Both Vape kits won't work. The Spanish Femsa is a different kind of beast (see pics below). The stator standoffs are way higher and any Ducati style ignition will hit them. I had seen somewhere a guy who machined / cut off the higher standoffs and drilled the cases for the Ducati stator…

yeah. . how bad do you want it? to convert the cases is easy with a mill.

Then here will be another that kind of conversion. Vape is not an option even if there would be a directly fitting one, since I happen to have spare Ducati ignition and crank just laying around.

I might get away without welding by milling the stator plate mounts 1mm lower than normally to get the desired centering lip for smaller diameter stator plate. But since I have a TIG, might as well add some material to make it properly.
