People have asked how to mount things like GPSs, phones, etc on their BV scooters, since it can be challenging because the bars aren't exposed.

Here's what I did for my Garmin zumo XT2, wired into the scooter:

1) RAM mirror stalk mount
2) RAM security bolt, so the mount can't be easily removed.
3) Motopumps security bolt, so the GPS can't be removed from the mount.
4) Power for the mount is run to the headlight, and I use taps to the low beam wires so the mount is powered only when the scooter is running.

The biggest hassle is just removing enough of the fairings to get the wiring to the mount.

I'm about to wire a carplay display, but the thought of tapping the front headlight for this seems... wild?

Please show the details! I want to do this. I have a short windscreen, and this layout makes so much sense.

Do the current Nav units reqire the power cord as an antenna like my older unit does? (Garmin NUVI)

Nothing wrong with tapping a headlight line for power - if you've replaced a stock halogen bulb with LED, there's an ABUNDANCE of capacity left on the wire. And if you're using the stock bulb, there's still plenty of capacity. But make sure you don't take any shortcuts with the wiring connections. It isn't a big risk but you don't want an inadvertent short in your accessory to turn off your headlight.

My Scarabeo 500ie, a close older cousin to your BV400, has an accessory wire under the windscreen, though, for stuff like this, along with its own fuse. I power my heated grips and phone holder/wireless charger from it.

(I've never had a shorting issue with the accessory wire, either.)

I'll have to look up the clamp type mount I used that holds the Garmin unit. The base has a 1/4-20 tapped screw hole. See that star blow the unit on my dash ? That is where I held the SHCS in place w/ Allen wrench. The base also has mounting tape to reduce vibration. The screw going up through the mount. The clamp w/ Garmin then slides on and is held in place.

I know the capacity isn't the issue, especially as LED headlights draw way less amps than than incadescent

my carplay HU draws < 0.2amp, I'll be tapping the switched USB wires instead.
