Hello!

I just had the 12,000 service and everything on the piaggio checklist was completed ……rollers/belt etc etc - but today when they took it for test ride it was evident that the pulley system needs to be replaced too - any idea how much additional expense this will cost?

The parts themselves are not expensive: I payed 70€ for the pulley parts.
But it took 1.5 manhr to replace them.
That is here in Belgium, maybe not so relevant for you.

The rollers and belt were replaced and he explained a sound when they took for test ride said the pulley system needed to be replaced - it's part of the 12,000 mile service anyway…..alls good

I've worn my pulleys (drive + driven) enough to need replacing and have replaced them. They didn't make noise that i heard ... but worn rollers do (and i think worn sliders?). Worn pulleys do change the rpm for a given speed though.

So I'm curious what sound he explained? Hmm maybe squealing a bit from belt slip?

He said something was "slapping up against the belt" or something like that - it was a quick chat I don't recall too many of the details

Maybe it was the "dump/idler pulley" not the drive or driven pulleys?

I've had to replace my one of these before and am going to again soon.

I think that was the source of your original noise.

I'm not sure how that pulley works but I suspect it exists to dampen a belt that starts to "twang" at idle for whatever reason. The moving belt hits that pulley and then can't rebound as far, so it doesn't hit the static metal case on the other side. Hitting that would abrade the belt.

So it works like putting a peg in the trajectory of a pendulum, so it can't swing past a certain distance. Or so I think.

Seems to be a large-engine phenomenon; I don't think the 150s or below have it. I have one in my Scarabeo 500 that probably has all of the scooter's 30k miles on it. It's a little scuffed, and I ask myself questions about it every time I have the transmission cover off, but I don't think it has a formal replacement schedule.

The original noise was the rollers/belt etc - it's all related …… I am happy it's pouring rain right now so I couldn't ride anyway.
