Does the low oil sensor shut down the engine when the oil level is low?

Not on a GTS.

On a GTS the oil pressure sensor is only connected to the dash light and not the ecu.

Probably the same on other vespas

If the engine stops after the oil pressure light comes on, it's probably because it's been destroyed for lack of oil. You have to check the oil level yourself, long before you see the death knell. Of course, the sensor that makes the light go on could be faulty, and cause a false alarm.

I post this image quite a bit on MV, because it takes all the 'oil level voodoo' out of owning a GTS, especially those lube-sucking HPE models.

Did I mention that it also saves a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on one's knees?

on my list of must haves, all my BMW K bikes had an oil sight glass, never understood why this was not industry standard for motorbikes?
