Hey Guys,

I've a bit of an odd request, but can anyone tell me the following about the stock Vespa ET2 mirrors:

1. Are the stems actually perfectly round, or are they more oval shaped?
2. What the approximate diameter would be?

I would like to buy this phone mount for my ET https://eu.peakdesign.com/products/motorcycle-bar-mount and it looks like the smallest diameter it can fit is 22mm or 7/8"

My ET2 only came with an aftermarket lollipop mirror on the left, but if the stock mirrors could accommodate this mount that would be super cool! I've been wanting to get a right mirror anyways, so may as well just knock out two birds with one stone if I can, order a stock set, and also be enabled to use this phone mount

They have a rubber cover over the bar so you would probably have to cut a section out of that to fit the mount.
The bar itself is 10mm, it is round, the quad lock mirror mount would fit this.

The original mirrors aren't that great so I put on the LX / GT mirrors.
One side fits, the other needs an adapter (I got this from beedspeed),
I added a Quadlock mount to that.

Could you possibly elaborate a bit on how you changed the mirrors? My ET2 only came with an aftermarket left lollipop, and I was looking where the right mirror should be, and can't even imagine how a mirror could get installed here Laughing emoticon Furthermore, since I'll need to buy a set, I also can't really figure out how I'd get the left mirror off.

I've attached pictures.

On the right hand side it looks like the mirror has snapped off and you have part of the threaded part of the mirror stuck in there.
You will need to find away of screwing that out or worst case replace the whole brake lever mount. It's probably been put in with threadlock so it could be quite stuck.
There are probably people that can advise on how to fix this, I've never had to do it.
I think some of the ET2's both mirrors are bolted from underneath. If yours is one of those then the stuck bit should just push out (although it doesn't look like that will be the case)

The left side is usually secured with a bolt from underneath.
I used an adapter to fit the later Vespa mirrors. I suspect yours will have something similar to this.

This looks the same also

I would lightly warm up the bolt head with a hairdryer or heat gun, as to soften any threadlocker, then use the left handed drill trick, just be very patient and protect the paint with towels in case of a slip.

Shawn2nd...I'm currently traveling and away from my 2 "Pontadera babies," but I want to follow this thread and make some changes when I'm home in October.

My 2001 ET2 has the original OEM shocks (soon to be changed) and the OEM mirrors. I' d like to follow along and see if changes you make might apply to me.

Hope y'all don't mind if I tag along!

I don't know if they still have them, but when I had my ET4, Scooterwest had some very high quality LX style mirrors for the ET models. I haven't seen them anywhere else.

As far as the OP's dilemma- before you buy mirrors, check to see that you still have the OEM left perch that came on the ET model. If you don't, ET mirrors won't work. If you want to use ET mirrors, the perch is no longer available from Vespa, but you can get it from Domino, or any of the companies that distribute their parts in Germania. The Domino part number is 2760.04-00. RMS sells it as part 184040300.
If you are hesitant to drill out the right side, and should be if you're not sure what is involved, a motorcycle shop can drill it out for you or refer you to someone who can. It is entirely possible to damage the master cylinder and headset plastic while learning how to drill out a broken bolt. So you are better off finding someone who does this on a fairly regular basis.
And to answer the question in the other thread you started about your mirrors, I would usually say to loosen the nut, and then loosen it, but the nut is down below the headset, so there's way too much work involved, and you might break something else. You can likely stand in front of the bike and give it a whack with your palm, so it moves counterclockwise, to pop it loose, then just remove it by turning it counterclockwise.
When you do finally get new mirrors, make sure to put grease on the threads and use the washers that come with the mirrors.

Pictures of the parts the mirrors attach to.
Left one has a non threaded hole. It's attached by a 13mm nut underneath. This is accessible from a cut out in the headlight surround using a small socket set with the extension added.
The right one is a threaded and the mirror screws into that.

I've noticed your left grip seems to have some kind of bar end device integrated into it. Do you know if the stock handlebars are plugged or completely hollow? Til now I haven't even able to get the stuck right bolt out, so I figure now it's a good time to maybe just upgrade both to bar end mirrors, but need to know what hardware I would need.

That's for my handlebar lock.
It had a solid end that goes for at least an inch.
I just drilled and tapped it.
