Registration for the 2025 Scooter Cannonball opened in June 2024 and has sold out. A total of 325 riders have registered, including over 100 returning participants and many first-time riders, with an increased presence from the long-distance riding community. We suspect a balanced mix of "win it" and "finish it" riders. Riders who withdraw may transfer their registration. There is a growing waitlist of prospective entrants.

The event's scoring format remains unchanged, with each day split into four timed segments, including optional bonus checkpoints that define the route and avoid interstates. The overall winner will be determined using the handicap formula introduced in 2012. Scooters are also grouped by displacement and scored comparatively without handicap adjustments.

Scooter eligibility requirements have been relaxed for bikes under 150cc, now needing to meet only two of five criteria (three for larger displacements). Displacement remains capped at 300cc, and engine swaps must be from bikes that meet eligibility criteria. This relaxed criteria for 150cc allows smaller Honda bikes that participated in 2023 in an "experimental" class to score in the main event.

The average displacement in 2023 was 191cc, and the 2025 turnout is expected to remain under 200cc. As of now, the declared scooter mix is 40% Honda, 35% Vespa, and 15% Yamaha.

Overnight cities were announced in August, and the Day 1 route will be released to riders in early 2025. However, routes for Days 2 through 8 will be released just days before the event starts, a new twist for the 2025 event year based on rider feedback. The total mileage is expected to be between 3,800 and 4,000 miles over eight days.

The Cannonball kicks off the weekend after AmeriVespa in nearby Portland. Everyone is invited to join the starting line festivities in Seaside, Oregon. Visit https://scootercannonball.com for more details, or email ride@scootercannonball.com with questions.⬤
