I picked up a 2008 Vespa LX150 with 388 original miles.

Its currently not running. I suspect the carburetor and fuel system would need to be cleaned.

Thoughts on this?

Is removal of the gas tank necessary to clean the tank?

Is the gas tank plastic or metal?

Thanks

Sounds like a good project! Let us know how it goes.

You'd definitely want to disassemble and clean the carburetor. An ultrasonic cleaner is really useful for this, if you have access to one.

The fuel tank is plastic, but probably does not need to be removed. You can drain the fuel from petcock at bottom of tank.

The petcock is vacuum operated, so you'd want to make sure that's working normally. Also want to check you don't have any cracks in fuel line, vacuum line, or intake manifold.

And air filter is going to be pretty brittle and due for replacement so it doesn't break up and get sucked into the carb

Thanks for the info.

When I turn the key to the on position, I heard a electric motor running for say 10 seconds. I was thinking this is the electric fuel pump?

I'd say yes, but didn't Vespa switch over to fuel injection 2009 or later?

When you are looking for parts, may I suggest Scooterpartco.com or Scooterwest.com. Both are members on here.

Some of the LX 150 models had a carburetor and an electric fuel pump. I'm pretty sure those are the ones with the two throttle cables.
There is a tap at the bottom of the tank, and if it doesn't have two lines attached to it, that's likely what you have.

To quickly drain the fuel tank of what's left after you drain it out through the fuel hose, you can take the bike outside, unscrew the clamp, and pull down o the fuel valve in the tank. Prepare to jump back or otherwise move to avoid the gas that comes rushing out. A plastic bag is likely the best way to catch it.

Good idea to replace all the rubber hoses and the intake boot as well.

We got a 2007 150 with about 150 miles We've replaced spark plug, rebuilt carb and a few other things at the dealer The bike still runs rough. It doesn't stall, just runs rough, vibrates a lot.

Any suggestions on the next move?

Thanks!
