Hello all,

Appears my electric fuel pump is not pumping. These seems very expensive to replace.

Best I can tell, the carburetor model for this year, offered both an electric fuel pump and a manual fuel tap.

Anyone ever do this conversion? Looks straight forward, but not sure where I would hook up the vacuum.

Here is the fuel tap I ordered.

The issue with the fuel pumps is the little electric motor. These can be replaced without buying the whole fuel pump. I have rebuilt several fuel pumps that failed on GTS 250's by buying a Kemso motor on eBay for about $40.

One issue I see with installing a fuel tap is that you will have to drill a hole in the bottom of the fuel tank.

I need to take a look.

I heard the same hole can be used and is a directly replacement.

Will look later today.

The motor does power up, but does not draw any fluid. I am guessing there is some diaphragm in there that is dried up?

Completely different fuel pumps. This is not an option for his 150. Buy an intake manifold with a vacuum nipple.

Thanks, I tried looking at a parts diagram but it only showed the fuel tap not a pump.

I found the same thing.

I am only seeing a fuel tap and not an electric fuel pump in the parts list.

Scooterwest's Robot does a conversion you can watch on YouTube from fuel pump to vacuum tap in one of his LX150/ sprint 150/ ET4 videos.

In my case, I found the wear item in the LX150 fuel pump (made by Mitsubishi) are the contact breaker points. Super easy to replace them with a few screws and unsoldering/ resoldering a ground wire. Points are not available as a new spare part. However, you can find used, good working Honda and Yamaha 650cc pumps made by Mitsubishi on eBay for $20. Don't use the eBay pump, it may be too much pressure. You can remove the points, inspect them, and put them in your Vespa pump.

I've talked to a guy who bought one of the universal fits everything pumps on Amazon, and it's been shooting gas out the vent of two different brand new OEM carburetors, and likely damaging them internally, because now even running off a gravity bottle, gas pours out the vent tube.

We've got the RMS one that fits the Vespa and Yamaha. They came stock on quite a few Piaggio scooters, and the Yamaha Majesty 250 and Virago 535. It's been extremely reliable. I've used one in my GT with the bigger Mikuni carb, and it works a lot better than the oem vacuum fuel pump.

I watched the vid last week when I was concerned about the fuel pump/carb combo on the 2009 s150 that was in my Cart.
Might convert it if/when the pump fails.

I am wondering why a electric fuel pump was fitted on a carburetor vespa? Previous years and even same year have a fuel tap. Could there be runability issues? Could it be, the fuel tap sits lower than the fuel inlet of the carburetor?

Thoughts?

Perhaps an electric fuel pump was added to meet some legal requirement? Possibly to avoid fuel spills after accidents. I noticed that also some carbed Hondas and Yamahas in 2008 got fuel pumps. In addition there is an electronic fuel pump controller that reads rpms and turns the pump on or off. I really don't think there was any performance benefit to adding a fuel pump.

I installed the fuel tap. No modification necessary to the fuel tank. In Addition, should not be any flow issues.

Can anyone suggest where I should get the vacuum for the fuel tap? There are 2 ports be utilized on the intake manifold. I think it's for the evap. Are they needed?

On my 2009 LX150 I ended up plugging off the port to the evap canister (the hose going to the red check valve in your picture). I plugged it because my OEM replacement rubber intake manifold came with an oversized orfice and this effected my idle speed. So if I were to choose an existing vacuum port, that would be it. Additionally, plugging this pipe and the port on the intake manifold made my idle smoother than ever.
