big ol' soft house brush!
Gets in all around the rear gear oil drain areas, wheel hubs, body-work, etc.

I use an gal. kitchen pitcher full of hot soapy water, then rinse with hose on gentle spray. Dry with a towel.
Scooter got a wash after today's rain ride.

For some reason, I can hear your scooter giggling adorably here.

How many coats of soap does it typically take? Do you find it stays cleaner longer if you lay down a primer coat first?

That's a great idea, especially getting into deep nooks and crannies. Hope you use a different brucks for the wheels and extra grimy areas so you don't scratch painted surfaces.

I typically use a long-handled soft bristle brush for wheels, engine parts, trans cover and undercarriage. Then use a sheep wool mitt for painted surfaces. Common car wash soap with a soft rinse, dry with leaf blower and chamois, finish up with a ceramic spray or good car wax.

Good Topic. The only thing I do differently, as previously posted, is blow dry it using my leaf blower. The high powered blower gets into everywhere.

I have tried to keep my Dragon Red GTS300 waxed, because red tends to fade. My advantage, it is inside in the garage the majority of the time.

Never been keen on using a leaf blower or anything else to facilitate faster run off. It may push moisture in places where it usually doesn't want to go to.
