Sorry if this has been posted before,
This is my first time and I did a search and came up with nothing.

My Vespa will not return to the idle stop pin Even when I manually turn the throttle grip.

The only way to gain idle is to get into the tub and physically turn the throttle wheel by hand back to the stop pin.

This is causing the scooter to run away if the brakes are not applied.

I have search for 2 days for a solution and done a few checks and can't find a solution.
Tried to lubricate both ends of both the push and pull cables with silicone oil but nothing seems to help.

I can see that the scooter must have the cruise control as the grip does not return on its own. I have checked the slack on both cables and it appears to be ok.

I just cant see why the throttle will not return to the idle stop.

Any suggestions will be more than welcome as this issue has been a re-occuring issue and has required a shop visit twice which resolves it for a few months then is back so I would love to be able to fix this with out the shop visits.

Can you ask the shop what they did to fix it?

I'm not aware of any Vespas that have cruise control as standard equipment. Do you think that cruise control could have been added on?

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to let the ECU reset.

I have disconnect the ECU but I dont think its that as it appears to be mechanical as it will return to idle when I manually turn the throttle at the ECU, the only thing I can see is that the spring here is not strong enough or the push cable may be too loose so that when you turn the throttle grip to idle it does not return.

I am only assuming it has crusie control based on what I have read else where, this may very well not be the case. but the throttle grip will not return to idle on its own.

Just for anyone facing the same issue.

I have managed to resolve the issue by adding a small spacer to the push cable at the throttle end and reducing the slack in the cable this has lead to the throttle now returning to idle when the throttle grip in in the idle position.

Thanks for the responses.

Thanks for the tip, but is that not like putting a plaster on the wound, maybe change that cable, would be more logical.

agreed but as the bike does not clock a lot of miles used by my wife mostly and the cable is less than a year old i figured this will get more miles out of it.

seems to be an issue with vespas in thailand following my investigation

Suppose if your wife is not as valuable as a new cable. Facepalm emoticon
