Hello all,

Drained the engine oil for the first time on the LX150. The drain bolt has a 24mm head and the oil filter I removed using a monkey wrench.

I have not torqued the drain bolt or oil filter (HiFlo with 17mm nut). Unless I removed the exhaust system, seems there is no easy way.

I am wondering how everyone has accomplished this?

I found torque adapters, both 17mm and 24mm. Purchased them on will try.

Anyone use them?

I never bothered to torque the filter and drain bolt, beyond applying a calibrated arm. Neither has to be very tight.

When I first got a Vespa, I wanted to torque the oil plug properly. I still think it's a good idea, but admittedly have gotten "lazy" about it.

Anyways, you can buy a shorty socket or grind one down: shortened socket for easier oil changes

I always tighten the oil filter by hand. At least 1/2 turn and not more than 3/4 turn. For the oil drain plug, I grip the wrench up against the drain plug (my thumb on the drain plug) and tighten hard as I can.

+1 Especially the filter. I set my wrist at "snug."

Oil drain is a big trickier because you do NOT want to strip the head by by being over enthusiastic. If you've had a lot of experience tightening stuff, it's pretty easy to sort out.

Of course it never hurts to do things the "right" way... Nerd emoticon
