Hi everyone
I've just got a piaggio 2009 lx50 from a friend who didn't want it , he said the only issue was the electric starter not working .
I'm not clued up in the slightest how to go about fixing it, but with loads of patience at YouTube tutorials I'm having a go , I've put a new battery in , side lights and brake lights work ? But front main light and rear light aren't , someone said the main light only comes on if the engines running , I've also noticed the kill switch is stuck on the on position , Would that cause it not to start , What would be my next step be troubleshooting wise ? Any help appreciated

Yes , I've tried the brake lights, They do work , I haven't tried the kick start yet , Since the kill start doesn't apply I was going to maybe try the starter relay to see if that has a good connection to the battery terminal , Where can I find the starter relay ?

My LX50 4T 2V does indeed have a Kill Switch. They can fail because they are the 'top' of the stack and so water can enter them easily. Same thing with the hi/low beam switch on the left stack of switches.

There's definitely a switch there , It seems stuck on the on position , I'm just wondering if that can be the reason the scooter isn't starting

How do you know it's "ON"? Just the position of the rocker means nothing if the switch internals are faulty. The fact it's jammed on is a huge clue.

Get your multimeter out.

Replace the Kill Switch. It's an easy and inexpensive plug-and-play fix. Take off the head assembly to gain access to the back side of the switch panel.

Still doing some trouble shooting on trying to get my 2009 lx50 to start , I'm getting one click when press the starter button then nothing , Going by people in the know on here it sounds like a faulty starter relay , The issue i have now is that the click is coming from the rear of the scooter yet on the manual the starter relay is at the front of the scooter .
Anyone know for sure ?

Thanks for the reply , it doesn't really help, it's a 2 stroke lx 50 and I still don't know where the starter relay switch is

^^^^ That's where the LX150 starter relay is. I'd be surprised if Piaggio ran big cables all the way from the battery to the front and then back to the starter - but they don't always do the logical thing...

It makes sense being at the back where the battery is and I'm inclined to think that's where it is , Just strange how the manuals say different

If it were mine and I could hear the relay clicking.

I'd check the engine wasn't locked up and turns over on the kick start.

Then I would put a known good battery in it.

Then I would take the centre stand off and check if there was power getting to the starter motor.

If there is then it's probably a bad starter motor, so I'd test it by running 12v to it directly.

If not then it's a relay / wiring issue.
I'm in the U.K. and none of my LX50 2T's have kill switches. (The LX's have a plastic cover/fake switch my earlier ET2 has a second headlight switch) so I could rule that out.

Personally I would think it's more likely the starter motor as it's in quite an exposed position. It may also have been burnt out by someone when they couldn't get the bike to start due to a carb/fuel issue or fouled plug.

Considering there don't seem to be many people on here that are positive where the relay is makes me think it's not a common failure point. Ask where the voltage regulator is and you get an answer pretty quick.

If you want to check the relay first and it's working then go to the starter motor next.
