I'm not a daily rider. I do long day rides and multi-day trips. 1500- 3000 miles. Longest day 675 miles.

I try to avoid the super-slab and WOT. That's not always possible. What would be a good configuration in belt and rollers, clutch/bell, variator etc. I'm in the Central Valley so 90-100 degree days 3-5 months out the year.

I'm thinking a Malossi belt, a Malossi or Polini Clutch bell (one or the other is supposed to be better at heat dissipation) and rollers ??? I'm guessing and that's all it is. Heavier is the way to go? AND that adding a spacer-washer thing has me flummoxed.

Maxed out multi day trip I carry me: 195 lbs, almost full Qweezy tool roll, a liter of oil and 5 liters of gas. Plus laundry.

Any suggestions or stick with stock?

Isn't there always some kind of reliability trade off with non-stock? They trade off may be worth it for the daily commuter who is always close to home. But for m your use case, I would think reliability should be valued above all else?

Stick with the stock OEM parts. I have successfully completed two scooter cannonballs with OEM parts. Never had an issue. However, some of the others who used non-OEM parts experienced high failure rates of those parts.

I think there's a fair debate on durability and acceleration effect with rollers vs sliders. They're wear items, and the "best" configuration with respect to weight is subjective. I'm using sliders in my scooters, but mostly out of curiosity. I think they last longer but that's hardly relevant as long as they last the life of the belt. I don't perceive a difference in riding between rollers and sliders that can't be explained by the weight difference. But plenty of other people do.

Once you start messing with belt geometry, and the things that touch the belt, you are mixing and matching components that were not designed with your specific hardware combination in mind. That opens the door to lower reliability, and I don't see the point of tempting fate if you're doing distance rides. In particular I would not, and do not, use third party belts no matter how "racing" or "Kevlar" they are. OEM Bando belts are very good.
