Modern Vespa

Bought a 1970 Veloce Sprint 150 - it had the 6volt contact stator i grew to hate. This then pushed me to modernize it a little

full engine rebuild with SKF bearings throughout on new crankshaft, this was coupled to malossi head and piston. New wiring loom from sip vape kit up to sip switch speedo ect.. Basically the electrics are modern with all new switches.

transmission looked ok, but i put a new cruciform in to be safe along with new seals everywhere.

brakes are the old drum type - they seem to work OK, but i had to renew them all at least, i then added 2 carbone shocks to the scoot and put Michelins on the rims.

to finish it off i added 2 wing mirrors and a big shiny expansion exhaust - this was harder than i thought it would be, i had to modify the stand which involved more welding.

In the process of jetting the carb and setting up speedo - taking it slow as i learning as i go.

log book just says douglas, but been told it a sprint v

does anyone know how to check ?

That's a Sprint not a Sprint Veloce which came with a round headset. Engine VIN is definitely restamped, frame could also be the same. Brings SEA bodge vibes, lots of them imported to the UK…

This. And combined with the shaky hand-stamped motor serial number and that PX floormat, it goes right on past SEA Bodge Vibes and more into SEA Bodge Pounding Bass for me.

Hard to tell from the squashed photo's, but is it on 8"s or 10"s?

Looks like 10's and the fuel tap lever is upside down…

10" wheels yes - the fuel lever i fitted after i put fast flow sip fuel tap on (sensor type) - made it so i can pull it off when parked up - can easily turn it 180degrees

10s as for all the parts i bought from Schoey Rochdale and Buzzmoto from halifax.

took me few years - there was no rush

deffo smaller gear ratios in transmission - all been checked.

i have all the original parts, speedo(piaggio mph ) - piston - head - electrics and paperwork.

everything inside the engine is new - purchased from Antony Buzzmoto Halifax - i in the process of running it all in

Log book registration is from 1970 and still has original number plate - are you saying this is a copy ? and all the paperwork is fraud ?

this my 1st vespa and i not got a clue - i just get told what it is.

Not that it's a fraud, just that it has a number of things that usually associate with SEA Bodges. Some of them, such as the fuel tap lever, you did yourself. Others, such as the P-style center mat, need to be replaced with the original rubber mat or it'll never look right to the informed eye.

If you took care of all the important bits, i.e. the mechanicals and electricals, and are confident the frame isn't a welded-together mess, then I'd say fix the bits that are "off" and ride it like you stole it.

I love the bright yellow and overall look (I have a SprintV myself), it just has a few things that need sorting.

to be honest i cant tell one from another - the number plate is the only way i can tell its age (GAM 456J) there may be many parts not right as you point out + i will address these i have completely stripped and rebuilt it myself - it rides like new with no issues at all -- even the electronic speedo, rpm fuel sensors worked 1st time. Tonight i just popped out and did another 80 miles up in the hills - yep i love it and it dont miss a beat. I will put more pics up soon, as the ones you all see are old, there has been more things done to it one of the changes was the exhaust -- went for the swizzoni one, it a lot louder now and sounds like a racing 2stroke. but looks nice.

I'm also knew to this and on my first scooter, but it does seem that there are so many bodge warning signs that most Vespas which aren't totally original are looked at as a potential bodge until proven otherwise.

I get the same response to my GL due to the two tone paint and the headset that is either very early GL or just incorrect depending on who you ask, the light is round not trap. It was painted in Yorkshire and bought as a pile of parts which I assembled so I know it's ok.

You're best buying within the scooter scene ie. individuals and scooter shops that have a decent track record. Ebay is not a great place these days, nor the many new shops that have popped up in the UK with shiny scooters to sell at inflated prices. A Vespa with a few battle scars is probably better than something freshly restored and hiding a few nasties, unless of course you know it's history and what it looked like before the 'restoration'.

Glad to hear you're going to sort out the bits that need correcting. The bike looks great, so you might as well get it so that it looks 100% rather than a possible SEA bike.

Maybe only the anoraks will notice or care, but the difference in response will be immense.

I think your pretty safe if you bought your scoot from Buzzsolomoto, Buzz knows his stuff. He picks his scoots up from Italy and Spain and I would be amazed if he had invited a bodge into the country.

spent many an hour in the shop -- buying and collecting info...

its all new apart from engine casing and frame -- full nut and bolt replacement and parts.

i went up there other day -- he got few scoots in side room ready for restoration -- i will be doing another
