SIP youtube channel just released a video about a new product, a 125cc cylinder for Large frame Vespa with modern tech, new port layout, 8-times bolted with O-ring sealed head etc. What do you guys think? Should it be a high performance stock-like cylinder? I wonder if this can rev higher

Only useful if you are restricted by local laws to 125cc and you want to play ball. We have 125 restrictions in the UK for certain people. Anyone in this category (with a largeframe Vespa) tends to go 177/187, for which there is a plethora of choice.

Serious question- does an inspector actually take your engine apart and measure the bore? Is it done by a 3rd party?

I love this! good base to turn it into something efficient instead of following the "no replacement for displacement" mentality.

The thing I hate about all the kits on the market is that they punch them out to ridiculous bores leaving the stub too thin, the walls around the studs to thin, and an over square bore/stroke that compromises making good power.

The ports here look like it could deliver more than a stock T5 as is, and could be a base for a monster of a 150.

No, but in case of a serious road accident they are not unknown to for mopeds and 125 class.

In Germany, yes. They will take it to a TÜV center and run tests / disassemble the engine. That's why a lot of SIP products have a KBA certification for their roads. After installation, you need to have it inspected and every modification will be noted in the vehicle's license…

I don't know of anyone (in 40 years) that has ever had their displacement inspected, but there is always the threat of it being challenged if you're involved in an accident.

Everyone here just buys 63mm kits for 125 Vespas, unless they have a full bike license, in which case a 200 is always the preferred option.

A friend grew up in Germany riding Vespas. He said if a motorcycle cop pulls you up for anything, it's difficult to talk your way out of trouble... apparently they are incredibly knowledgeable on what is and isn't original. Doubt they are measuring bore and stroke on the side of the road however, leave that to the TUV.

I can see the reason for this kit. The port layout is ideal, especially for tuning further. I'd expect when correctly set up, this would take a 125 that might do 60mph downhill on a good day, to one that does 60mph uphill everyday.
That said I think sales of VMC 177 kits won't be affected.

UK police havent got the time for anything, shoplifters, burglary. They certainly havent got the time for ripping an engine apart to check capacity. Considering a lot of standard 125 motorcycles, such as Honda CG/PCX will do 67mph as standard, even kitted vespa 125's dont draw any attention to their speed so police would have no reason to pull over. MOT stations never check capacity, they are just interested in the frame numbers linked to DVLA showing 123cc, regardless of kit is 166/177 etc. Once in a blue moon the police team up with the DVSA, hire out a warehouse, pull in cars, motorcycles, trucks and really go to town with things like window tints, exhaust, wrong lighting, but never capacity checks. I guess if you did get found out it could lead you to a whole world of s**t due to invalidating insurance, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, seizure of scooter and real difficulty in the future getting any insurance at all, for scoots, house or car.
