When eating pies, which I tend to do a lot of, the magic happens with the first bite and the last bite. The bit in the middle is just diabetes(renal is between me and the bakery). So pies just need to be two bites big. Same experience.

But with pizza, the last bite is the boring crust, which always makes me sad.

Which is why we make our own from scratch - all vegan too.

We use a pizza steel raised two inches on firebricks on an infra-red BBQ grill.

Heat up for at least 25 minutes, insert pizza, cook for six minutes, perfick.

Also, the Italians have a solution for this particular conundrum.

Quattro Stagioni pizza. I have eaten more of these in Italy than I can count.

Sadly, I am forbidden real bacon these days, have to settle for turkey bacon, which isn't too bad once you get used to it.

It's not actually burned to a crisp. But for many, the desired end result is crispy. Those two things are not the same.

If you're eating burnt bacon, then you did it wrong.

I agree with lomunchi & Syd.

I've heard pro-mushroom arguments that "you can't taste them" and "they take on the flavor of what they're cooked with." My counter to that is, what's the point of adding them, then? If they have no flavor of their own, then there's some other reason for adding them. If they take on the flavor of what they're cooked with, then they're just unnecessary filler.

Ultimately, my argument against them is the same as Syd's - it's the texture and consistency that I'm against.

I have the same argument against avocado, mainly due to my first experience with it. I'd never had it before, and was served a burger with a slice of avocado on it. I saw the layer of green, and expected something firm or crisp, like a thick slice of cucumber. Instead I had a mouthful of mush. Guacamole is good, though.

Why do Brits eat beans on toast? Or crisp butties? Or jellied eels? Or any other godawful abominations?

I'm not making any excuses for American cuisine, mind you. Some of it is genuinely awful. But I think generally Americans are aware that there is a whole world out there full of people who have different tastes and like different things and have different customs.

For whatever reason, the British always seem confounded by this fact.

That's wrong, though. They definitely have flavor. Anyone who says otherwise probably smokes two packs of cigarettes a day.

They also add a ton of umami to almost any savory dish.
