Inadvertently bought a variety pack of cracker-cut sliced cheese. It included Cheddar, Colby, Havarti, and Gouda. I was struck by how utterly pointless it was to include Colby next to Cheddar. I mean, Cheddar is boring AF, and is often the default choice when something just calls for "cheese" without specifying specifically what kind of cheese.

But at least Cheddar has actual flavor.

The two "supermarket block cheeses" I can enjoy (in the absence of something better) are extra sharp cheddar and pepper jack.

Mrs. mpfrank likes colby and colby-jack. But lately, in a fit of sanity, she directed me to pick up a wedge of Jarlsberg at Costco.

Good choice. Jarlsberg has a nice nutty flavor, and is a big improvement over generic Swiss.

Disney should be broken up. And so should Kroger.

And another thing. I find myself watching how-to videos on YT where the presenters talk endlessly without doing anything. Then once a small step is completed proceed to explain what it was I just clearly saw, again!

Passing on a hot take here. I have a new guy int he lab. We were talking about music and he, admittedly, doesn't care for much for most music. His hot take, and it was nearly a ten minute rant, was that people are categorically wrong when being critical of ...

I, too, followed the masses with regards to the general opinion of Nickelback's ouvre. Then I watched "Hate to Love: Nickelback" on Netflix. Chad Kroeger is actually a very talented songwriter, and the band is also talented.

I think he watched the same show. I will concede they may have fallen into the same pit as Winger, but for a country who gave us Triumph, Rush and Men Without Hats ... they should try harder.

So ... it's now become my hot take.

Mayonnaise is an abomination

Banana flavoring is absolutely disgusting. Ironically enough, banana's are delicious.

As much as I fundamentally disagree with FridayMatinee's take on mayonnaise, this thread is called "hot takes". So no judging.

Just the other day I had two co-workers say that they really enjoy the banana flavored (and shaped) Runts candy.

Those two people are dumb and have no business giving their opinion on food from this day forward.

I will continue to judge quietly in the confines of my own thoughts.

HOWEVER, anyone begins extolling the virtues of Miracle Whip I cannot be held responsible for my actions.

Two words. Circus Peanuts. There ... I said it. If I believed in a fiery hell, I'm sure that's what they'd eat there. Made with artificial banana flavoring and real brimstone.

Sorry, mayonnaise is amazing. Try brushing it on anything you grill.

I just threw up a little in my mouth..

I am not a fan of bleu cheese and get hazed by wife and friends for not liking it. If my blushing bride does not want me to eat something in the fridge, she tells me she put bleu cheese on it.

I do not have an opinion about Colby - but do not ever ask for it.

Any food joint with pictures instead of written menu = junk.

that's not really a hot take, that's just a fact.

We have a ritual of putting a pair of coronas in the freezer for 30 minutes [ymmv]
The ideal is to have the beer slightly frozen
Add some lime & watch the freeze spread down
Drink about 1/3 of the slushy goodness in one swallow

You can cool filtered/pasturised/keg beer as much as you want, but DON'T cool any cask or bottle conditioned beer below normal cellar temperature. 11 to 13 degrees Celcius. Then you can gulp down a refreshing pint [1] - not something possible with near freezing keg beer. That said, I love a good west coast IPA of 4-5% ABV nice and COLD.
