That leads to the conclusion that you really can't anticipate a person's intelligence or ability to reason based on their appearance.

It should cheer you, then that a bunch of FE-thers, along with some intelligent, and probably good looking people traveled to Antactica to 'prove' the earth is flat. Expecting darkness at some point, said FE-thers learned, to the good looking ones delight, that indeed, the FE-thers were wrong.

The discworld novels historical journals present self consistent arguments for this.
You'll have chortles all the way down.

Of note, I've never met a flat earther ever. Maybe being perpetually about to fall off the edge here in NZ we're all in denial?
I do know one bloke who claims the moon landing was fake though (which it obviously was, otherwise we'd have been back by now).

Irony case hardened, the reason we've never been back is because a wealthy family "who shall not be named" owns the technology and the map to go there,
Remember this was when everything was done in pencil and contracts were written more inclusive than nowadays. <~ gross and greedy oversimplification trust me bro.

I am fascinated by the (apparently coincidental) fact that two of the current original series on AppleTV ("Severance" and "Silo") very quietly and surreally reflect aspects of what it is like to work inside Apple itself.

I could fully believe that Ben Stiller is trolling Apple. I don't think Silo's resemblance to life inside Apple is deliberate, though.

I am endlessly fascinated why Brits think there is a "correct" way to say or spell anything in English, when they know perfectly well that there is no English equivalent of the Académie Française.

A poor choice of words, perhaps. He identified the element and (rightly) named it.

But if you want to be pedantic, he was actually an inventor, so the statement:
jess wrote:

is still technically correct (if you squint and ignore the comma).
